  • simple "american english" direction
very pleased...simple and easy to understand because the author does not use "comupter lingo" to explain how to preform a particular operation, just simple "american english" words and phrases...yes, there is a God, and He provided the author with enough common sense to write in such a fashion that I am able to understand just what the heck i need to do to actually accomplish what I set out to do...and for that i say Thank You so Very Much!!! ... show more

  • For Dummies and Not-So-Dummies
After recently purchasing the new Galaxy S Tab, I've been passing down my old Tabs to folks that were used to iPads and iPhones. Instead of explaining everything, it was easier to just give a copy of this book along with them. Of course, I read through it myself to make sure it was helpful. To be honest, most of what is contained in the book can easily be learned simply by playing around with your Tab, but it still gets a solid 4 stars because it does hold a few nuggets that even a seasoned user might use. Written in the familiar Dummies format, with the usual side notes and tips. Easy to read and can help you to quickly get used to being in the Galaxy. The people I gave it to agreed with the above, finding it helpful in learning a new system. ... show more

  • Without this book, my Galaxy Tablet would have been in its box forever!
My Galaxy Tablet was a birthday present. You know, one of those electronic things that kids give their grandparents. I took it out of the box but couldn't even figure out how to turn it on or do anything but become incredibly confused. On my computer, I can put the mouse on an icon and get some help. Not so with my tablet. This book, Galaxy Tabs for Dummies changed my life!!! Now I love my tablet!! Gookin wrote the book in a way that I could understand and follow instructions. Now I can take photos, read books, listen to podcasts, use the calendar and scheduling functions, play games, read my email, search the internet, and much more. I took my tablet on my last airplane flight after following the Dummy's instructions. The only chapter missing in the book is how to use Polaris, the word processing, spreadsheet and powerpoint. I use those programs on my laptop and have figured out how to put these items on the tablet., But I'm sure there are shortcuts that i don't know that would have been helpful in this book. Overall, if you're new to Galaxy tablets, then I highly recommend this book. Very, very helpful. ... show more

  • Pretty Basic
I ordered this for a friend who is in his 80's hoping it would help him learn to use his tablet. So far so good I guess. I was also hoping to learn a few things about my own tablet, but as a galaxy user for several years there was nothing new in the book for me. Very very basic.

  • A good general reference for both beginners and experienced users
Dan Gookin's books have always set a high standard, and this one is no exception. This is a helpful summary and reference for those of us who have used tablets and the Android operating system before, but it's clear and complete enough for the first time tablet user. The one important omission I can think of is that he doesn't describe the use of a micro SD card, or the use of the tablet's USB-OTG capability. [Warning - not all Tab 3s are compatible with UDB-OTG. The 8 inch and 10 inch versions are compatible, but the 7 inch, currently, is not.] Note also that this book deals with all models of the Samsung Tab series, including those with SIM cards (which can act as telephones) and those with only WiFi access. As it happens, this isn't a limitation - as long as you understand that not all functions of the Tab series are available in all models. Good book - probably the best of the lot. ... show more

  • Great reference
This book has been a good help with tips and general info about Galaxy tablets. This book is up to date and covers the android system. I had a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and now have a Note 10.1 2014 and this book has been a great help with learning things about my Note. The Tabs and Notes don't come with much of a manual so this book really comes in handy. ... show more
