The phone was supposed to be new, but the one I received was used. I've attached a photo to show the tiny nicks on the device that gave it away. Aside from that, I found the phone to be heavy and uncomfortable to hold in my hand. That made it hard to use what would otherwise be a great phone.

    • New Old Stock - as expected
This review is for a Galaxy S24 Ultra Unlocked sold by DNCL-TECHZONE. I wanted to get a Galaxy S24 Ultra but I didn't want a refurbished or renewed phone - I wanted a "new" (old stock) one in a factory sealed box. I wanted an "unlocked" with no carrier firmware. Most listings were refurbished or renewed but this listing did not say that, but neither did it say "new". Based on the price (a bit higher than refurbished) I decided to take a chance. Shipping was fast and I received the item a day earlier than expected. Packaging was great and the phone was well protected inside of the package. The phone was indeed in a factory sealed box (with paper pull tabs intact, not a shrink-wrapped box). I checked the IMEI and all seemed good. My only worry was the model was an SM-S928U which denotes US with carrier software, while the SM-928U1 is carrier software free. The SKU showed it was a T-Mobile SKU. According to my research, a new unopened phone with a T-Mobile SKU would be network locked to T-Mobile until it was on a plan for 40 days so I was worried that I would have to pay for T-Mobile activation and a postpaid plan for 2 months - close to $100. I opened the phone and powered it on. It had 18% battery to start; I expected a low battery level as it is a 2-year old New Old Stock phone. I was glad it was not completely drained. After working my way to the home screen I checked the settings and it said the phone was network unlocked, which made me feel better but I don't quite understand how this came to be as I fully expected it to be locked to T-Mobile. But I'm not complaining. I used the Odin process to reflash the phone to SM-S928U1 to remove the carrier firmware (boot logo, etc) which went without issue. Then I transferred my previous Verizon SIM to eSIM on this phone and transferred all of my previous phone's settings and applications. Everything worked as well as could be expected for a complicated setup process - no issues with the device itself. The bottom line, everything is working as I had wanted it to be, with the phone being a truly unlocked carrier firmware free (after a flash) and my Verizon SIM working. The device has the specifications (color, RAM, etc) that I ordered and was in a new factory sealed box. I took off 1 star because although the phone was "unlocked" as advertised, it was not carrier firmware free (although the listing didn't specify that it would be). I would have taken off 1/2 star or less if I could. Not everyone is going to be technology savvy to reflash with the U1 variant to remove the carrier firmware, although the phone should have functioned fine on Verizon or other networks as I received it. Shipping was fast, accurate, and well packed so I have no complaints about the seller. As for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, I'm happy. Coming from an older S22 Ultra that now is starting to show battery wear and the device is now out of software update status. I wanted the S24 Ultra because I like the smart view cases, which Samsung has discontinued with the S25 series going forward, hence my decision to go with the S24 Ultra, get another 4-5 years of software updates, and a bit newer technology (although I was happy with the S22 Ultra, I just knew it's end is coming). If you don't want to spring for the very latest but want a solid performing "Ultra" phone, the S24 Ultra is a good choice. You just have to take a chance on a device that's been sitting in storage for 2 years that it doesn't have any permanent battery degradation yet. FINAL VERDICT: Recommended! ... show more
