These are my second pair of Salomon's. I trail run in Fellraisers throughout the year. I purchased these for hiking and hunting. However, after wearing these I am also looking forward to running in them. I live in the Pacific Northwest so we get a lot of rain. During my hunts this fall, my feet stayed dry and comfortable. The traction is top notch and aggressive. The boot is lightweight and made long hikes much easier. My feet didn't feel heavy at the end of the day. I'll keep this review updated as I get more miles on these through the winter.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm hard on shoes. I'm a utility meter reader. We walk many miles daily on both paved and unpaved surfaces. Keeping my feet dry and comfortable are the two biggest concerns. I have been using various Keen "waterproof" mid-tops with varying degrees of success and wanted to try another brand. Comfort - 4/5. The insoles do not cup your feet and you can feel it, but they're quite comfortable. Arch support is also good. There's a lot of support all the way around your foot, giving great stability. Grip - 5/5. Very grippy. A lot better than I'm used to with Keen. Waterproofing - 2/5. The liner on these leaks like a sieve. Invest in waterproofing spray and bring extra socks. They do dry quickly, though. Construction - 5/5. Seems solid. Unlike Keens, the soles aren't a ton of layers waiting to come apart. I love the laces. They aren't weak or too long. Also tend to stay tied better than I'm used to.

UPDATE 4/26/20 - 1yr later - gortex lining is starting to fail, i suspect it’s bc of semi-frequent high water crossing where water comes in the top of my boots and can’t escape. The tread is showing some wear, but I’ve put hundreds of miles on them so I’m not terribly disappointed. Still very comfy and no tears or holes. Will buy again. UPDATE: 5 months later and these have become my favorite shoes and they are holding up great. Yesterday was a 3 mile hike with a water crossing and some mud. This morning sprayed them off with the garden hose, a little sunshine and they’ll be good to go. If you spend any significant amount of time off pavement, do yourself a favor and get these boots. I had the Solomon XD pro forces, but did not care for the speedlaces on a hiking boot. These are great though. They are comfortable right out the box, and have gotten even better after a week. The tread is excellent for off road - giving sure footing even downhill. The gortex works as it should, keeping your feet dry as long as water doesn’t go over the top of your boot. I am wearing these with a class B uniform (LE) about 3 times a week, but will also wear them off duty. You learn as you get older how important your feet are. Buying good socks and shoes is a priority. Pair these with some darn tough brand socks and you are set. I am not a paid spokesperson. Lol

I have been a Merrill fan for many years but after being disappointed in my last 2 boots falling apart I decided to try Salomon. I talked with some cool dudes who do some real cool guy stuff for a living. They are all Filipino and have tiny thin feet. After doing some reasaech I picked these up, they fit very nice a little snug for me. I had a hot spot for the first few hours but after some use it went away. The thing that impressed me the most is how light the boots are compared to some of the other ones I own. I haven’t put much work in with theses yet but so far so good if they last me a year they are a MUST BUY!

I bought these boots specifically to do a courses of action small unit tactics course over a period of ninety six hours. During these 96 hours we only slept about 8 hours because of this we were on our feet most of the time hiking and patrolling in the high desert regions of Southern Utah both on flat surfaces and on mountainous and heavily forested Terrain. These Boots worked out rather well and while they did come out beat up my feet did not I did not get any blisters nor have any other areas on my feet which showed significant wear as I had expected. There's a few areas with some dry skin but other than that my feet were good. The boots even helped protect my feet when I stepped on a board with a nail in it and reduced the damage to my foot. The one thing I did notice was that the insoles seem to curl over a little bit after I wash the boots I'm not sure if that was because of the drying process which include using a blow dryer to help dry quicker or not although I suspect the blow dryer heat cause this. I do intend to replace the insoles. I cannot recommend These Boots more as they saw heavy use in a short period of time on rough Terrain and kept my feet protected and moving.
