I’ve been using Sakura Pigma Micron Pens for who knows how long at this point! I find that these are a fairly reliable pen that write and draw exceptionally well— with a few caveats. I find they don’t smear as much as other pens and tend to cooperate with other mediums. (Except for alcohol markers. I will say they smear with those in particular…) The pens aren’t particularly comfortable to use compared to more ergonomic designs, but they’re well-designed, nonetheless. Typically, I get these in black and use them with colored pencils or water color (after it’s been dried). As suggested above, I did try to use these with alcohol markers and the markers definitely picked up the pen and slid it around. Maybe if I would have waited for it to dry more it could have been better? I’m not sure. I did try to wait and it seemed like a decent amount of time, but anyway… I digress. Aside from that, the variety of sizes make it a cinch to experiment with line weight and density. Another little annoyance: Despite all the positives, sometimes these markers will come with a little wispy tail on the end of them. Almost like a wild hair. If you don’t pull it off or cut it out it can leave little feathery smudges in your line work. I promise they’re really good despite my criticisms. It’s kind of like, “Ugh. I shouldn’t have to cut off a little hair on my pen so it writes better.” But, then, once you do it, it feels totally worth it. If you want to become a real manga-inspired webcomic artist, these are a must to put in your artistic summoning circle.
