Maybe a man would be stronger at using these but I had a real hard time getting them to work. They wanted to pop off the wire and then the thing would land on the ground. I tried several times and then realized my wrists were hurting me. Maybe if the wire was really loose when you started the twisting, it may work better at getting it started. Maybe if I was tightening up electric fence wire these would work. Maybe even Goucho wire. But not on red brand 12g barb wire. It's easier to cut the wire and splice than tighten with this tool.

These do indeed work well at tightening fencing where it has become slack. I wouldn't trust these to be a long term solution, especially if you have animals within the fenced area, but for a short term solution in that scenario they work well. These could, however, be a long term solution in perhaps a garden area. The overall design is simple to use, and the construction is durable and robust. It is difficult and awkward to use. Prepare for sore wrists. Even if you don’t have pre-existing wrist issues, you are going to feel some wrist exhaustion and pain.
