  • Simply Outstanding Camera
Set: Camera Only Style: iPhone Version
Wow! That pretty well sums up my impression of this little 360 camera. I am a camera fanatic. I have had several DSLRs, compact cameras, video cameras, iPhone (cameras), manual stabilizers, gimbals, tripods, monopods for stability, and several GoPro and knockoff action cameras. Most were either too bulky, too heavy, too complicated, not stabilized, poorly stabilized, poor quality, or too expensive. After using and testing the 4K Rylo for a few days, I am in love with it. It simply does everything right. It doesn't replace some of the cameras I mentioned above but it's a near perfect replacement for my action and small cameras. The 4K quality looks great on small screens (haven't viewed on large PC screens), stabilization is the best I've ever seen (as good or better than gimbals), and simplicity of operation is a dream. It's great to be able to take a Rylo video, download it, and create different edits of the same file to create completely different iPhone videos. I have a feeling that this is the direction that all action cameras, and many other consumer cameras will take in the future. Build quality appears to be excellent but be aware that the outer lens are plastic, which is common on these types of cameras. This means it's necessary to take extra care not to scratch them and keep them clean. The included carrying pouch should always be used for this purpose. The Rylo is very small and slippery, which can be a potential problem in that it can be easily dropped and damaged. It's important to keep it in either the included Everyday case, or the optional waterproof case to help prevent the problem. The handle on the Everyday case is provided with a handy wrist cord but it can't be attached directly to the camera (are you listening Rylo?). File download speeds (using the included USB cable) are very fast as compared to WiFi and Bluetooth wireless speeds I've experienced on other 360 cameras. Thank you Rylo. Some of the earlier reviews here identified issues that have now largely gone away after a couple of firmware updates, one as recently as January 25, 2018. In summary, this is one the most satisfying camera purchases I've made. I can see this generally replacing some of my small cameras, including tripods and gimbals. ... show more

  • Great 360 camera, but lots of improvements can be made.
Set: Camera Only Style: iPhone Version
I started using my Rylo in July of 2018, just after the news firmware updates came out solving the brown coloration issue. Thanks, Rylo, for fixing that! I find that the color is fantastic now and video from the Rylo blends well with video taken from my Osmo. It's nice to know that Rylo solved that issue. However, there are still some things that could be improved upon. -When I first got my Rylo I didn't realize it was preset in low-quality mode, so my first video looks terrible. They were also shot in low-light due to weather conditions, and the Rylo is awful in low light. Once I figured out how to adjust video quality (in the settings section one you hook it up to your phone), quality improved. But I was about to return it after my first video because it was just terrible. I don't even know why Rylo bothers having a low-quality setting. It's painful to watch. -Yeah, low light sucks. We did a time lapse of a parade and it was a rainy day. I think the combination of the sport case and the terrible low-light quality, to begin with, made it a bad video from beginning to end. I do not find this low-light issues to be exclusive to Rylo alone, however. I have yet to find a 360 cam that performs decently in low-light. -No desktop app. Seriously, how have they not improved upon this yet? I edit mostly on a 16 GB iPad because I have a camera full of pictures and videos of my kids so I don't have room to be importing the Rylo clips and then saving the edited copy onto my phone. Using the iPad I can usually download two video clips and edit those before I run out of room. Clips are in 9-minute segments, so if I'm editing a 30-minute shoot I'm having to edit, export, and then delete at least twice during editing. This is time-consuming and annoying. Editing on my computer would be much more convenient. Having a phone editing option is great for many, but terrible for others. I'm not a hobbyist. I bought the Rylo to use for work and have a fantastic computer built for editing video. I want to use it! -Photo quality is terrible. I did buy the Rylo for video, but thought it would also be usable for photos. It's not. At all. Even on a sunny day where the sun position is perfect and there's plenty of light the image is noisy and focus is not sharp. -Sound is equally worthless. We don't even export the sound, we put music over the videos in post. Not worth the time and effort it would take to clean up the sound in post. -Poor battery life. We get about 35-40 minutes of continuous runtime on the battery. I would hope for at least 60 minutes. Buying a back-up battery is possible, but when you have the Rylo in a sport casing during a bike race or canoe race, stopping midway to change out the battery just isn't possible. This is also not exclusive to the Rylo as most action/360 cams seem to average 30-40 minutes of battery life. But still, I'd hope for a little more life. -Having to pick between the Android and iPhone version just because of the little tiny sync cable. Is it really that expensive that you can't just include both in the package? We have both iPhones and Android phones and tablets in our office. We did purchase a second cord, but it should just be included. Don't be cheap, Rylo. With all that said, I still love the Rylo. We filmed a zip line tour and it turned out great (nice sunny day). We've used it for home tour (Real Estate) quite a few times and clients have really responded well to it. Some other "Pros" include: -Easy to use. It took three minutes to train other in how to film with it. -Editing on the phone app is pretty straightforward and quick if you have enough space on your device for multiple edits. -Time Lapse is great. Since no one wants to watch 30 minutes of a bike race, speeding it up to reduce the time down to 2 minutes was amazing. Smooth and clear. -Uses universal mounts. No need to buy special mounts. If you already have a mount for a Go Pro you are good to go! -When the conditions are right, video quality is amazing. Quality also blends in great with Osmo footage, which we often use in combination with Rylo footage. If only picture quality could be improved upon. -Image Stabilization is amazing. From shooting from the back of a truck to zipping along a zipline- the footage is stable and even in timelapse doesn't show much shaking. I have yet to see the stabilization beat by another 360 cam. Even most action cams don't come close. It's nice to not have to carry along an extra rig to help with stabilization. All in all, it's a good camera and I'm happy I bought it. I'm hoping the issues we have can be improved with updates and the company finally releasing a desktop app. That alone almost makes me wish I'd bought the Insta360, but then we wouldn't have the action capabilities that I enjoy so much. But, seriously, add a desktop app. ... show more

  • Awesome camera for adventuring and social content marketing
Set: Camera Only Style: iPhone Version
This camera is so fun!! I'm always the camera nerd on all my adventures with my friend and Rylo has been capturing amazing moments for us. Rylo has gone with me paddling, hiking, hunting, camping, cycling, ziplining, surfing, snowshoeing, skiing, and various other activities that are full of movement and adverse conditions. The thing that has really blown me away and convinced me to make the switch to Rylo away from my GoPro is the stabilization factor. Whether I'm riding through rapids, chasing birds, or sprinting around the Sydney Opera House - the view is smooth and almost drone-like. It's incredible. The most impressive is always when I strap Rylo to my dog and set her free sprinting through the woods. It's a smooth POV from her back. I edit most of my footage on a computer so it took me a little bit to get used to editing on my phone. I've got it down now and can cut videos quickly with the app. It's always so fun being able to look around and see everything I saw in front of my face, but also see the faces of my friends and the things that were happening behind me as I was experiencing the moment. I am now on a trip in Australia and New Zealand. I didn't even bring my GoPro because I don't know that I can go back to an action cam that doesn't have stabilization or the 360 view. --As an added bonus. I am a digital marketer in my professional life. This camera has been great at trade shows and creating engaging and interactive content for our social marketing. I definitely recommend Rylo if you're an outdoor adventurer or a content marketer. ... show more

  • Poor editing software
Set: Camera Only Style: iPhone + Android Version
Overall let me say this product was pretty awesome testing it out. I did return it and purchased an Insta 360 One X instead. Much better product, quality, FPS, accessories(drifter cmon really!!) and editing software for Windows. PROS Videos came out pretty great Photo quality you can get from videos or individually Adventure case worked great skiing and didn't give me any issues with snow or water. Batteries lasted a decent amount of time. Settings very easy to use. CONS I contacted RYLO and they originally had plans for Windows desktop software...they cancelled it, so I was stuck editing on my android. Not cool. You have to connect the rylo to your phone and move every video and photo individually. What a pain. No waterproof on its own and with the case its only good up to like 10 feet? Pointless if you scuba or dive. Always gave me issues trying to connect to my phone, would have to pull battery and restart every time. Batteries would not show charging % in the rylo when connected to a wall outlet. The MAIN issue I have with this was the editing, the android app only let's you edit on the phone, pointing clicking etc is easy however you cannot edit tiny planet, slow mo, etc within the same video. It's all or nothing, then you need to export it to PC in order to use ANOTHER editing software to compile the videos and then edit them there. It's not convenient. ... show more

  • Epic Fail
Set: Camera Only Style: iPhone + Android Version
So I've been testing out the RYLO for a few days now. And unfortunately, I'm going to have to call this one an epic fail. I'll get all of the bad stuff out of the way first. 1) Not at all impressed with the image quality in any lighting conditions. Not sure yet if the unit I received has some issue, so I'm planning on conducting a bit more testing. Image stabilization is ok, but not quite up to all the hype. 2) Built in microphone is all but useless. And there is no way to connect an external mount. 3) The app for the iPhone has connection issues constantly. I have to keep re-connecting the RYLO only to have the app lose connection to it within a few minutes. 3a) If you connect your iPhone to anything else, like a bluetooth headset, which is what I normally do when I'm on my motorcycle, the RYLO app will disconnect even more frequently, and kept losing connection altogether and would not even pick up the RYLO. 4) Sucks battery power very quickly if you are shooting 360 degree video. But since this camera is made specifically for 360 degree video, I guess nobody thought it would be important to actually be able to use this cameras main feature for more than a few minutes. 5) To add insult to injury, you cannot charge the battery, and shoot video at the same time. So forget hard wiring it to an on-board power source if you are using on a vehicle. Very dumb, and annoying. 6) To transfer video, you have to use your iPhone, which means you had better clear all of your apps, photos, music, and any other data off of your phone or you will not be able to transfer anything. A four minute, 30 second video takes over 30 minutes to transfer to the iPhone, and since the RYLO breaks continuous video into 4:30 minute videos, it took over 3 hours just to transfer the first 5 videos. Each one had to then be transferred from the iPhone to my computer through iTunes. Why you ask, lets go to bad stuff #7. 7) There is no desktop app for RYLO, only MAC! That's right, THERE IS NO WINDOWS APP for RYLO. Just let that sink in for a minute. MACs only account for approximately 9.9% of the desktops in the entire world, but if you want to connect RYLO to a desktop, you are S.O.L. unless you have a MAC. So for all of us PC users, the only way to edit and transfer the videos taken with RYLO is through the iPhone app, which is a very slow and painful process. 8) The cable included with the RYLO to connect it to the iPhone lightning connector is about 6 inches long, which is extremely annoying. I have the RYLO mounted on the top of my motorcycle helmet, which means I have to take it off every time I need to transfer video, which is a huge pain since I have to then re-align the camera every time. 9) Depending on the way the camera is mounted, or held, I have noticed a pronounced line at the point where the front and rear images are stitched together. It is most noticeable if you are capturing video in a very small space, but I have also picked it up outdoors. This is not necessarily any fault of the camera, as I'm sure there are going to be some limitations in what the software is capable of. But so far, the video I have been able to capture looks nothing like those that are posted on the RYLO website. 10) The action case, which must be purchased separately, is ridiculously expensive for no apparent reason. And unfortunately, RYLO is still new to the market, and there are no third party companies making any accessories for RYLO yet. Although, mounting options are plentiful, since you can use any mounts designed for the GoPro. This seems to be the only instance where the manufacturer actually used some common sense, and forward thinking. So what about the good stuff you ask? 1) It shoots 360 degree video. Yup, that's it for the good. And it does that fairly well..... sort of. Overall, I would have to say that the RYLO is a marginally successful first attempt, that is just not quite ready for prime time. It is very cumbersome to use, and has to many negative issues. I had very high hopes for this camera, but ultimately, I think after a bit more testing, just to be sure I'm not being overly picky, I will be returning it. ... show more

  • Great 360 Camera!
Set: Camera Only Style: iPhone Version
The Rylo 360 Camera has great build quality, that's compact with, good image quality and intuitive user interface. This camera is great for you if are looking for 360 capability to capture all of your life events from a unique perspective and never miss a shot. All shooting, file work and editing can be done with the camera and your phone. This makes it convenient to quickly edit and share especially during travel. We mounted the Rylo to a dog harness and went out to the beach for some fun. The camera's image stabilization is unbelievable! My video looked as if I mounted a gimbal stabilizer to my dog! The 360 camera gave such a unique, cinematic perspective. After shooting, I used the Rylo app to select where I wanted the camera to look and what I wanted the camera to focus on. I don't have much video editing experience, but I was able to use the app get as much of a cinematic feel as I could. Overall, I'm very satisfied. Rylo is doing a good job constantly updating the camera and app. I'm excited to see what new features they come up with in the future. ... show more

  • Nice video, great stabilization, but the Android app is lacking.
I had high hopes for this camera, but I found in my use case that it simply doesn't really work as advertised. Let's start with the Pro's: - It's nice looking. Same form factor as everyone else, but the materials are indeed nice. It gives a sense of quality without a doubt. - The stabilization is indeed great. My use case was mounting this on my car for various forms of auto racing. The car rides firm, and bounces a LOT at times. You'd never know it from the video... silky smooth, this they indeed got right. And... onto the Con's: - Battery life is horrible. Says 30 mins. fully charged and took forever to charge. I didn't any documentation that indicated at what amperage this device wanted to be charged. I understand they provide a cable, but they don't provide the wall plug. It's the wall plug that determines the amps. I can't charge this in my car with my cigarette adaptor, I couldn't charge it with the wall plug I use for my cell phone at home either. I had to dig through a bag of old wall plugs I've kept to find something that would work... I had to go back to a plug from my Blackberry days to get this to charge. There simply is no reason to not accept the USB-C high speed charging standards in a newly release device. - You can't charge it and use it. I knew this before purchasing, but it become a HUGE issue when you want to use the camera for the day. You get 30 mins., and in the field even my portable power packs wouldn't charge this. I had 6 hours of things to film, and I got less than 10 mins. of footage. - The app. I should leave it at that because the app (Android) in general fails. OK.., the contrast, brightness, sharpness functions seem to work and remain consistent across the video you apply them to. So, give them that. The other features... not so much. -- Level: You are supposed to just go out and shoot, and "fix" everything after in the software. So, I mounted the camera on the windshield as I did with my GoPro. I got it level(ish) by sight. In the software I fine tuned this for the start of the video. Unfortunately the level then seems to wander throughout the video. The image tilts one way, then then the other through the recording. You can't set the level for parts of the video, so I just turned this off and left it consistently unlevel. It's easier to watch this way. -- "Look Here" & "Follow This": There is some odd behavior here. You have to be careful about what you pick to focus on. If the object become obscured it can't be found again. For instance, if you're driving in a car and you "follow" the car in front of you on the video, if that car turns and passes behind a light post, the video stops tracking the car and just wanders aimlessly. If your object is small (traffic cone, track corner marker, etc.) it appears to "see it", but watching the video shows it didn't really. Trying to use this to teach folks a racing line via "look here" was useless, because the camera wouldn't stay fixed on that point. - Naming files: You can't apparently. When you save the file it just saves the file. If you've recorded 6 clips, and you import them to the phone, there is no way to know which was clip 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. They come in order, but recording sessions on the same track for a Saturday and Sunday I could end up with 20 clips with no way to really tell them apart. I ended up giving hand signals and speaking out a file name at the start of each clip so during editing I could tell what file I was working on. Saving the files has the same issue, you can't name them in the app for some reason. All in all the Rylo is a decent camera, with some cool features (the stabilization really does work, it is impressive), but it simply does not work as advertised. It's a shame... because my GoPro is problematic in the Wi-Fi making downloads a pain at times out at the track. I end up removing the SD card and inserting into a Chromebook / tablet to watch the videos quickly. I'm going to end up picking up a Garmin Virb 30, hopefully that's a good mix of the Rylo and GoPro setups. ... show more

  • Redefines how you think of using a camera
Set: Camera Only Style: iPhone Version
This camera is amazing! It takes every convention you’ve had about taking photos and videos and turns it on its head — literally (get it? heh). The camera itself is simple to understand because there’s not that much to get — you turn it on, choose the mode (photo or video) and just shoot. There’s really no need for focusing on a subject since it’s a 360 camera. Everything is done in post, from choosing the subject you want to follow, to the view you want to see. After having fumbled with many camera-to-mobile apps, the Rylo app is surprisingly fast and simple to use. Once you’ve downloaded the app, when you plug in the camera to your phone, it automatically asks if you’d like to be taken to the app and sync photos. Once taken to the photo app, the menu lets you choose the photos/videos you want to download and edit. This is where the fun begins. Not only can you tap to choose the subject to follow or direction to keep looking, you can also create various modes, thanks to the camera having already captured every possible thing around you. In the video mode, you can split the camera screen so that it shows two views simultaneously, or my favorite feature, turn it into a “tiny planet” and look like you’re walking on a tiny little earth, round and round. The fact that you don’t have to think about where you’re shooting makes this a great activity/action camera. Everything around you is being shot, and the image is incredibly stable — no Blair Witch Project effects here. I can’t wait to take this little guy on my next vacation. ... show more
