I ordered this because it did offer full belly coverage, most I found just had a strap. I wasn't concerned so much with the back coverage as I was with the belly. our 74 lb. Labrador had been shaved for a surgery and was too bare for the snow. This provides a nice layer of insulation for her. When we come back from a walk her stomach is warm. I like that this jacket can be used for both rainy/cool days, and in the winter to keep snow off the back and chest of my spaniel. The zipper closure is much more reliable/secure than a Velcro type one. Just the right amount of insulation/coverage for trail running and hiking with my dog. This is my second Cloudchaser (first one was for my previous male spaniel, which is too large for my female spaniel). This is the only jacket my ultra sensitive pit bull X American bulldog mix will wear without putting up a fuss. Rogue has short hair (no undercoat) and like many shorthaired dogs he is nearly hairless between his front legs/under his belly. He hates going outside in cold weather but also hated every dog jacket I tried and would be reluctant to move, much less go potty, while wearing one. The softshell material of the Ruffwear jacket provides a close but flexible fit that moves with him, which I think he prefers over the more rigid construction of the "horse blanket" style dog coats that just sort of slide around when he walks/runs. It was 20 degrees F the day the jacket arrived. We put it on with minimal fuss and headed out for a walk. Rogue happily trotted off and did his usual pee on every post he saw as if he wasn't even wearing the jacket. I put my hand inside the jacket once or twice on the walk and was pleased at how warm he felt under it. His chest measures 35" and I bought a large, which fits him like a glove. This is my 3rd one for now my 3rd dog. They last forever. The first one I got has held up for years and many, many miles. My girl is too old to go on hikes anymore, but the jacket is still in perfect condition. My 2nd one was for my daschund. Those guys are impossible to fit, but it works for him. I have a 15 pound Havanese and I ordered an extra small jacket that fits perfectly. The jacket sheds rain and snow while walking on stormy days. His stomach does still get wet when we play in the snow because the underside is not water resistant. The underside of the jacket is a stretch fleece which helps with a great fit. I really like the zipper long one side allowing it to be placed on or off the dog without having to go over the dogs head. The jacket is warm without being overly thick which makes it ideal for an active dog.
