    • Fun but not terribly practical
Fun: Cute & good for starting conversations Impractical: Opening to purse is rather small, making it difficult to insert & remove items. Has only one interior pocket that is difficult to see into. After two weeks the burnt rubber smell is still pretty strong (especially if it is in the sun). Revised review 1 year later. Ok, I confess, I just bought my second chicken purse so I must increase my rating to 5 stars. The smell does eventually go away completely, but it took about 4-6weeks. Yes, it is impractical in all of the ways I describe above. I solved the problem of not being able to find my cell phone in this purse by attaching a Nintendo game-boy case to the handle for the purpose of keeping my phone in an easily accessible spot. The thing I love about this purse, I'm embarrassed to admit, is all of the attention it brings. I've had multiple people stop me to take pictures of my purse. I get comments almost every day when I use this purse. People recognize me by my purse now; it has become a part of my identity. Its a fun conversation starter as well. I am pretty hard on purses so this is my 2nd rubber chicken purse in 3 years! I have never gotten MORE COMPLIMENTS than ever about this purse. Apparently I am now “the chicken lady “ 😆 The opening of the purse is a tad too small (ripped the first one at the zipper). I carried her daily anyway. Can fit a decent amount of stuff! I had eyed this purse for over a year before I finally bought it. It's a delightful, humorous purse! Everyone that sees it and comments, loves it! It is sturdy and seems to be well constructed. The biggest drawback is the size of the opening. It's so small it makes finding and pulling items out of the purse very difficult, as you can't see inside if your hand is in it. Additionally, the one interior pocket is located near the top and it hangs open, obscuring the entrance to the purse. When I go to put my wallet back inside, the pocket inevitably catches the wallet or whatever I'm attempting to put into my purse, and won't allow it to go further. So I had to hold the pocket closed with my hand while slipping my wallet or other items into the purse alongside my hand. I fixed that, though, by carefully sewing two snaps inside the pocket and to the lining of the purse, so that it stays closed until I unsnap it. (It was a bit tricky to sew, though -- small opening to work in, the lining is slippery, the thread keeps catching in the zipper, etc. But it was well worth the effort, to me.) My photo shows how the pocket behaved before I sewed the snaps on. My typical contents of the pocket are a small sticky note pad and pen (currently missing the pen), a thumb drive with keychain attached, and a small sewing measuring tape (not visible in the photo.) The pocket hangs that way with or without contents. This is a novelty item and is probably not likely to continue in production for very long, but if it were, I would suggest redesigning it slightly, to have the zipper extend, turn, and go down the edge of the hen's tail (in an "L" shape), so that there is a larger opening. And put the pocket further down inside the purse. ... show more

    • I can't go back to a regular purse! So addictive to carry!
This is perhaps the best purse I have ever owned! I recommend it for anyone who has a sense of humor or wants to draw a little attention while out in public. But be prepared for chuckles and people constantly asking you were you got it from. My chicken purse who I have named Ms. Nugget goes everywhere with me and I find it difficult now to go back to a regular purse. I was surprised that the purse is actually a little bit bigger then I expected. As stated before by other people the zipper is a little too small and sometimes you have to work to get things in or out. But that is the only complaint I could find with this purse. It is made of rubber but I did not notice any kind of rubber smell. Because it is made of rubber I would not put anything sharp in it. I like the fact that it is made from rubber because I have been caught in many rainstorms this spring and the rain drops just bounce right off it. The inside is made from a silky type material and it has one pocket which is handy. The red handles are comfortable and are made from some kind of sturdy wire. The purse over all is deep and can fit many things. It is also easy to wipe clean. I have to say I am very addicted to this purse and carry it where ever I go. ... show more

    • I am buying my third hen bag.
This is true... I have literally worn out two other hen bags and decided that I need a new one. I switched to a black satchel and it is SO BORING. People love the hen bag all around the world. I took it to London, France, and Spain...everywhere I went, people were thrilled. It really is a conversation starter and broke down cultural barriers like no amount of well-meaning language butchering could. Anywhere I go, whether it's starbucks or a dive bar, people love the chicken. I decided that since everyone was going to be so nice about it, I would get little gifts to hand out to people who found it amusing, which is why I got the Mini Chickens: [...] They sell them by the gross, and I did not foresee getting through a gross of itty bitty chickens, but people love them. Kids, adults, men, women... everyone loves them. I receive photos from all measure of situations and geographies featuring my chickens having margaritas, sunning themselves, supporting mini gnomes, etc. I think of this bag as a lifestyle. There is one seriously bad thing about this bag, which is the zipper at the top. It's so fricken small. It takes a lot of work to get anything at all out of the top. Digging for makeup is practically impossible. It's just an unfortunate function of the physiology of the rubber chicken style, but it still is a pain in the butt. However, at $22, you can not get a better life improvement tool. I truly believe that. Combine it with a taco coin purse, since I hear the matching rubber chicken coin purse sucks. ... show more

I love this purse! It can be a little hard to find stuff in it as the opening is smaller than I'm used to, but it fits a lot of stuff in it! I have a wallet that's about the thickness of your average paperback, the same length, and about 2/3 the width. It fits just fine. I keep that, two pill bottles, two large sets of keys, a coin purse, full size deodorant, glasses case, an absurd amount of lip products, a few masks, two boxes of njoy cartridges, a pocket knife, and a bunch of folded papers. It still has enough room to throw my phone in, and only be about 2/3 full. The hole in the top is only big enough to accommodate a smaller book. I'd say it's about 6 inches. I've gotten so many compliments on it, especially from older women. The only thing I would add to it is like a chicken sounding squeaker to the face, as you can't really use that portion for storage, and so many people have asked me if it makes noise. It seems pretty durable so far! I'm hard on purses and have been using it for a month every day with no damage. I'll update this in the future if I notice quality issues.
