I just could not risk going with no names and needing a replacement sooner....so I decided that I would use this Rowenta fan to remove air from the house on cooler less humid nights, which in my location is about 6 months per year.. cool sleep without 150 days of 8 hour AC costs. I made a circular widow cutout from thin plexiglass and then put a white posterboard collar around this fan. On cool nights I move the fan to the window. I remove the fan to close the window.. when its set up, I simply slightly open a window in any room and this fan pulls the air in that window ... that room and even the house cools to near the outside temp... from 55-70 depending on time of year. Above 73 and its AC for me when sleeping. The fan is well made, powerful, has great air movement and at low speed is literally silent... literally... and to be clear... it CANT be as quiet at high speed because the amount of air it moves (good) creates windy sounds and high motor rpm sounds.. but even this is much more quiet than others I have owned.. a very good product. I am in the process of buying second for normal use around the house..not the original plan but its simply that good.... ... show more

I bought this fan because I bought the countertop model a year or two ago and absolutely love it. It's the quietest fan under $200 I've ever owned! When I needed a larger floor fan for my new bedroom, I knew this would be a good bet if it was anything like the last one. It's great! It is very powerful and doesn't make any more noise than the Levoit air filter I have running in my room. There is no annoying engine hum or rubbing sound when it moves if I set it on oscillate. I can point it away from me and it generates a strong, comfortable air current in the room without having to have it directly on me all night. Putting it together was super easy. If you have ever assembled a fan, you won't have any problems assembling this one. It is not wobbly or top-heavy--I don't know why some reviewers think so. You are not going to tip it over accidentally unless you shove it awfully hard! The base is really heavy, though, so if you plan to move it around a lot, maybe get the counter version! The controls are easy to understand and operate, too. I love this fan. It is everything I hoped for and I feel like I got a great value for the price! ... show more

It shipped in an oversized Amazon box, and I could not imagine what I had bought. The fan is inside that box inside a third box, the Rowenta box. NOTE - Be careful not to toss the remote when you unpack the fan, and don’t bother looking for the battery, because they don’t include one. I have taken apart other floor fans to clean, so I was familiar with putting this type together. Very easy, just take your time. The only tool you will need is a smaller Philips head screwdriver for the screw that tightens the cage around the blades. When on Silent Night mode it is VERY quiet - 35dBA. My dishwasher is 39 dBA, and one of the quieter ones on the market. Also, I am sitting about 10 feet away from it in that mode, and I am still feeling the gentle breeze. I love the remote, but was totally annoyed that I had to order that CR2032 button battery for it. You can use the fan without the remote. All the same features are on the fan. It is not right that they don’t make the point that the buyer needs to supply the battery clear when you buy this fan. They make all sorts of other suggestions to buy other products “frequently bought together”, so why not something you really need ? It was annoying to have get back on to Amazon, place another order, and to wait for another delivery to test the remote out. By the way, there is a different floor fan by Rowenta, VU5870 that DOES come with the battery. It costs about the same (got mine on sale), but it looks different, and the base and stand are all white. Had I given this as a gift in the middle of a heat spell, the battery issue would have really ticked me off. This fan will be easy to clean, and hopefully the motor won’t burn out like my old fan by a different manufacturer. The Rowenta is much nicer, and has more features. If a fan can be stylish, in my opinion this one is. It shows a remote replacement for sale on Rowentausa.com for $17.10. Model number is CS-00139696, but they want $14.99 to ship it ! I found other sources on eBay for less. Amazon does not sell this exact one from my search. I know that there is a spot to store the remote on the top of the fan, but I will keep it next to me, not on the fan, and it would be nice for two people to be able to have a remote or a spare. I knocked one star off and gave it a 4/5 because of the battery, and also because Amazon does not sell a replacement remote-that I could find. ... show more

This fan is super nice. I got the desk version, and i use it at night in my bedroom. It is very powerful but very quiet as well. There is a night setting that makes it even quieter. And a turbo setting that could blow you away, literally. The only negative is the battery for the remote. It takes a CR2032 and I know that from another review that was left. No where does it say what type besides on the INSIDE of the remote which is easily missed. The remote is also taped on the side in the box and is so little I almost threw it out. But overall, the fan is really well built! ... show more

I've considered buying this fan for years. It's a good looking fan. Pros, it is quiet with a fairly weighty composite base (base I received has a minor crack on the bottom). The remote works well. Assembly was quick and easy. Well packed. Cons, much of the fan is plastic with the exception of the cage and the pole that adjusts the height. The section where the motor is located seems flimsy and tipsy although it does not move around when operating. It's not a powerful fan. My wife likes it for when she's watching TV and says it puts out a nice quiet stream of air at just the right height. I bought two of these but only kept the one I assembled because it looked too difficult to try and get it back in the box. I guess I expected more. ... show more
