I have a similar Rovner for my clarinet and love it so I bought this when I started playing tenor sax as well and it's great. Not only does it help with a warmer sound (more noticeable on clarinet than sax, though), the rubber also grips the mouthpiece better than metal so neither it nor your reed will slip. A teacher of mine who's a high-level saxophonist also recommended this ligature in particular. I have to return my rental sax for a while for money issues but am still glad I invested in the mouthpiece for the next time I rent (or work toward buying). ... show more

The tenor sax version of this ligature was purchased per the suggestion of a friend as a very reasonable upgrade with potential improve my sound. I find it much easier to use than the old metal ligature that I was using previously. I have recently upgraded to another mouthpiece and it also works great with the new one. The other bonus is that the Rovner does not scratch or damage the mouthpiece like the old school metal ligature can. I noticed a fuller sound and more predictable response after the switch and would say this is a great option for new sax players of all ages. ... show more

Gets a nice dark sound on my bright mouthpiece, sounds beautiful. I would recommend this for all standard tenor sax mouthpieces. but works on slim bari sax models, such as a Rico Royal B7 or most Otto Links. Definitely get this. Inexpensive but high value.

    • Just ok...not bad, not great.

First of all, I'm a total beginner. I'm an older adult that played sax in school and have decided to revisit it. The ligature sounds/performs fine. I'm an amateur so I can't tell you if it's particularly dark, bright, or what, so take this with a grain of salt. The first problem is that the ligature did not come with a cap. I had to order one for an additional $12-$13. Not a huge deal, but a cap is depicted in the description. Secondly, the small bar gets caught on the threads of the screw when you're opening the ligature to remove it. You have to kind of pry it open with your finger to get it off. A minor annoyance, again, not a huge deal. I opened up the hole a little with a drill and that has helped some, but I may have to go in and open it up a little more because it still hangs a bit. All in all, it performs MUCH better than the cheap, double-screw ligature that came with my saxophone, that much I can tell you for certain. I didn't want to mess with returning it, so I just ordered a cap for it. As I get better I will probably look to get a different ligature, but until I reach the point where I can determine the difference in sound, this one will do just fine. ... show more

I have bought these for all of my sons' saxophone mouthpieces! They are built well and very easy to use. I do not play saxophone but do not know why anyone would use the old metal type ligature. The flexibility of these is very convenient for a snug fit!
