Description

The Rovner Dark assists in producing a full, centered tone. One can compare the results of this ligature with the age-old technology of the string ligature. Enjoyed especially by classical performers for its warm sound, the Rovner Dark is our most favored and top selling ligature. Rovner ligatures hold the reed to the mouthpiece with no pressure points. Because there are no pressure points or rigid constraints on the reed, the reed seats evenly to the facing of the mouthpiece reducing stuffiness and improving tonal clarity. • Best ligature that I’ve played with!
Model: Versa (HR): V-2R
Great tone for both Concert Band and Jazz Band. 10/10 would recommend for anyone looking for a better tone.

  • Excellent Ligatures & Good Value.
Model: Versa X (M): X-3ML
The Rovner Versa-X is my favourite ligature for any mouthpiece. I have played Alto and Tenor sax for over 30 years and as a gear-head - I’ve tried just about every mouthpiece and ligature (and reed) combo out there. The Versa-X is like a custom fit after it breaks in to your mouthpiece, which takes just a couple of playing sessions. It is simple and easy to use and tightens down evenly and quickly when you need to get set up or change a reed. It is built of very durable materials and it looks very cool as well. The pressure plate system is perfect - because it actually delivers on two slightly different tonal concepts in one ligature. If you expose the plate to the reed you get more brilliance and projection and it you close the textile flaps over the plate you get a more compact and warm sound. Some players even change it up and cover half of the plate with one textile flap as it can make some bad reeds more playable. At a price point of around $50 compared to a hundred (or hundreds) for other fancy ligatures, the Versa-X is the first option I look for. Be sure to check the Rovner website for fit information for your particular mouthpiece and you’ll be good to go. Rovner is great to deal with and my products always arrive fast and perfectly packaged. Combine that with their excellent customer service and you’ve got nothing to lose. Rovner Versa-X for the win. ... show more

  • Pleasantly surprised!
Model: Dark (HR): 2R
I love my new, budget saxophone but the ligature that came with it was terrible. I debated for quite a while and decided that even if this was terrible it was refundable. I was so pleasantly surprised when this ligature arrived! It works perfectly and looks great as a bonus. Oh and the price was right! ... show more

  • Just ok...not bad, not great.
Model: Dark (HR): 2R
First of all, I'm a total beginner. I'm an older adult that played sax in school and have decided to revisit it. The ligature sounds/performs fine. I'm an amateur so I can't tell you if it's particularly dark, bright, or what, so take this with a grain of salt. The first problem is that the ligature did not come with a cap. I had to order one for an additional $12-$13. Not a huge deal, but a cap is depicted in the description. Secondly, the small bar gets caught on the threads of the screw when you're opening the ligature to remove it. You have to kind of pry it open with your finger to get it off. A minor annoyance, again, not a huge deal. I opened up the hole a little with a drill and that has helped some, but I may have to go in and open it up a little more because it still hangs a bit. All in all, it performs MUCH better than the cheap, double-screw ligature that came with my saxophone, that much I can tell you for certain. I didn't want to mess with returning it, so I just ordered a cap for it. As I get better I will probably look to get a different ligature, but until I reach the point where I can determine the difference in sound, this one will do just fine. ... show more

  • Tenor ligature fits great on narrow Bari mouthpiece! Tenor ligature fits great on narrow Bari mouthpiece!
Model: Versa (HR): V-2R
Bought this as a new ligature for my Ted Klum London Bari sax mouthpiece and I absolutely adore it! I’ve been playing Rovner ligatures for a few years now and I simply cannot go back to a metal two screw model. The versa gives the full, rich sound every saxophone player craves! Great purchase!!

  • The Best The Best
Model: Versa (M): V-2M
I've used Rovner ligatures for probably 20 years or so. I've always loved them, if only for the convenience of their design. I wasn't sure a ligature really made all that much difference in tone, though...until I tried the Versa. I found a Versa for my alto at a reduced price, so I decided to give it a shot. I was absolutely stunned by the difference. It made my alto tone a little fuller, brighter and brassier...just what I'd been looking for. I play a Yanagisawa 7 metal mouthpiece. I've always really liked the mouthpiece, but felt it was missing something. The Rovner Versa made my mouthpiece come alive. Honestly, I never would have imagined a ligature could have made that much difference. I recently got a new tenor sax. I went with the same mouthpiece setup, including a new Rovner Versa ligature. It sounds fantastic, and I've received many compliments on my tone. I'm not disappointed. The Versa can be set up different ways to achieve slightly different tones. I leave the "flaps" tucked into the sides, and use the metal insert that originally came in the ligature. I tried a couple other configurations, but this is the one that works best for me. As I mentioned above, it is a little brighter and brassier than my previous Rovners. It takes a few hours of playing for the ligature to "break in". Then you will notice the tone smooths out a bit. I think it also blows more freely. Rovner Versa ligatures are high-quality, long-lasting, versatile and easy to use. But most importantly, they bring my sax to life. I won't use anything else. ... show more
