  • I was eyeing the Lego one, but then Rolife pulled through!!
OK another day, another Rolife! This one I have to say has been one of the prettiest designs from Rolife! I have done a LOT of Rolife over the course of about 3 years but this one was very pretty with the tree design and I was surprised at how well the tree house fits on it; for a second I thought it wasn't going to work but surprise, surprise! My kit didn't come with any missing pieces, at first I thought I lost my smaller flower stickers and thought they weren't included but they just blew away when I had the box open so watch out for any those since the extra pieces that normally come in bags for these kits are quite small. The build quality is typical rolife cleanly cut may need some filing down but nothing too major to report. No glue needed for this kit at all... I decided to do it dry this time and didn't have any problems since the tiny flower details are stickers and the bigger flowers on the tree are able to be applied using the round double sided stickers. The details on the kit are a bit of a step up from the usual Rolife kits; they actually tried to put on the wood-grain effect for some places on the treehouse;it was a nice touch and I can see that they are improving the designs as they go along...tweaking some things. I can't really recommend this one to children though only because this is a tree house and the pieces are a bit smaller and may be a bit more frustrating to slot into places. Even though the end result is gorgeous it's a bit more hard won. There is no lighting feature with this kit which is okay but I personally think the tree house lit up at night would be awesome! I might have to rig mine with lighting as I think that would be so cool to see! Also this one is on par in size to the Rowood flower kits it's the closest thing I think of to compare it to since it has similar directions to the flowers and has a few of the same design features. My only complaint is that Rolife include more of the double sided stickers as the Sakura flowers will fall if not enough is applied and I like to put some extra on them just in case...so if they include another sheet of those stickers it would be appreciated. For anyone doing the kit go slow! Can't stress this enough; as I started to slow done when doing these kits I noticed I made a lot fewer mistakes if any at all or put things in the wrong places...can't tell you why I was speeding a lot through these when I genuinely enjoy doing them; I personally blame hustle culture for the go, go, go attitude though. So go slow, enjoy the kit! It cost enough for you to take your time and enjoy the process. ... show more

  • Challenging Treehouse Kit that is worth it in the end
There's a lot I like about this treehouse, but definitely some things I found frustrating as well. This kit doesn't involve glue (have some handy just in case), but instead has double sided tape dots. These sort of work. They are used when attaching the flowers to the branches. Unfortunately, it doesn't always hold. When I was almost finished, a blossom patch fell of and I have no idea where it came from! On the plus side, the instructions are pretty clear despite being wordless. Some pieces have arrows on them and it's a huge help. It does get a little tricky with the branches toward the end. This is a miniature kit, so some of the pieces are TINY. I took a picture of the tiniest part next to a penny, so keep that in mind. A few parts have extra pieces, but most of those weren't necessary. I wish there were extra pieces of the stair and balcony railings. I definitely broke a couple of those and I needed super glue. I do wish it had lights! You put things inside the little buildings and they can't really be seen once the piece is complete. My bit of advice would be to handle everything on the D and the smaller pieces from the E sheets with extra care, as the wood is very thin. Any time you need to put a square peg in a round hole (except for with the openable doors), be prepared to sand the pegs or shave off some with an X-acto knife. Same for with the pegs that attach to the sides of the tree. I would recommend this kit if you're looking for something different, especially if it is on sale. ... show more

  • Precision is Key
I generally take umbrage when miniature house kits are referred to as ‘puzzles’. Puzzles are so exacting. You've got to follow the directions as required. You miss a step or even a piece and you cannot finish it. With miniature house kits, there's a level of customization that really speaks to the culinary artist in me. With those kits, I can leave out a decoration that I don't like. I could even add my own ideas and have a fully furnished and complete piece, which I have done in the past from this very manufacturer. Well, when it comes to this set from Rolife, I actually must concede that the Sakura Tree House really is a 3-D puzzle. Yes, I am making a very small tree house, with included tree, but I cannot do any customizing without disrupting the entire process. For example, you're given a massive 48-page instructions manual. The book tells you the corresponding parts ID number; some of which are printed on the top of the piece. I thought I could flip those pieces upside down in order to not see the numbers. NOPE! By doing that, I have pieces in the wrong direction, preventing me from doing the next step. I also consider this set to truly be a puzzle because of the sheer volume of pieces. There's probably 800 pieces to this thing and that's a conservative estimate. I would not be surprised to find out it has 1000 or more. I have to be really careful tearing out the pieces. At least twice, a part fell under my desk or stuck to the other side of the board you remove them from. It's a bit nerve-wracking when you come up short. The one bit of customization that I would encourage is to use a different adhesive than you are given in the kit. You receive these tiny adhesive dots. Two sheets worth. However, I'm noticing that they just aren't strong enough. So I am using a model glue designed specifically for miniature house kits and it's working really well. ... show more
