I’ll admit right up front, I’m a huge ROKR model fan. I’ve currently assembled five (locomotive, airship, marble run, formula race car, owl clock), currently assembling one (illuminated globe), and have the pinball machine, a velociraptor, and this coffee factory waiting for assembly. Having said that, I have the highest regard for every ROKR model I’ve purchased, including the new Industrial City models. Pros: - incredibly well-designed - perfectly packaged - spares are included where there might be breakage issues during assembly - everything works, as long as you take your time and follow the directions Cons: - sometimes the directions can be confusing. Read and re-read them before each step so you know exactly how things should go together. Here are some tips I have for assembly: - TAKE YOUR TIME! The fun in these models is the assembly, not looking at them on a shelf (although that’s great, too). Take your time and enjoy the process. - the wooden pieces are laser cut, with only a few places that aren’t cut all the way through. You can try to just punch them (carefully!) out of the sheet, but you may end up breaking some. If you trust yourself (or your teenager) with a single sided razor blade, use that to cut each of the tiny sections holding the piece to the sheet. Just hold the sheet up to the light to see where those sections are. Using that technique I’ve never had a broken piece or needed to use any of the spares that ROKR provides. It also makes a cleaner edge, which reduces sanding. - sand the edges of the wooden pieces. Yup, it may not be necessary 90% of the time, but it eliminates most fitment issues. It also provides a more uniform look to the edges. No need to take wood off the piece, just a quick swipe to smooth things out. - understand the nuances of the instructions. Usually printed around the parts list is a list of special instructions (like the legend on a map). Some examples are “Printed side”, “Perspective changed”, “Polish parts with sandpaper”. Don’t ignore or overlook these special instructions. - assemble on a table that you won’t have to clear off every day/night. This will take some time (remember, enjoy the process).

The media could not be loaded. I loved this build from start to finish, and I adore the finished product as well. I enjoyed every step of the build, and it was exceptionally fun and interesting to see how everything came together. There is beautiful attention to detail in this kit, and it was a lot of fun to pay attention to the details and how they all became a part of the finished product. I love that the coffee shop is two stories tall, and it's also a lot of fun that the doors open and that you can see inside. The roof of the top floor is also mostly clear, and it's a lot of fun to be able to look inside through the roof. There is so much going on in this coffee shop, and it's endlessly entertaining. Some of the details that are particularly special are the pieces that go into the coffee cups to give the illusion of coffee, the roasting mechanism with very realistic looking coffee beans, the rotating "belt" that keeps coffee cups moving when the kit is on, the stairs that are on the second floor of the coffee shop, the mechanism that lowers into the rotating cups in the cylindrical part of the shop, and the paws that go in and out of the self-serve windows, one of which is holding a mug of coffee. The lights add a lot of fun detail to the kit as well, and it's an absolute blast when it's running. I thought the finished product for this kit was going to be larger than it is, and I am so happy with the size of it! It's big enough for there to be space for all of the details and small enough to fit in with the rest of my collection of kits. The instructions for this kit are very clear, and detailed images were helpful with steps that were trickier. The pieces were mostly sturdy as I put together the kit, and there were spare parts for most of the fragile pieces. There was one long piece that broke that there was not a spare for, but a little bit of glue solved the problem very easily. I needed a little bit more sandpaper than was provided with the kit, and the amount of wax provided was fully sufficient. I was very excited when this kit was released, and I thought it was going to be a special build and an adorable finished product. It surpassed my expectations. BOTTOM LINE: I've put together many many of these 3d kits. Rokr is one of my favorite brands because their quality and attention to detail is fantastic. And this is no exception. It ranks among one of my all time favorite builds and I love the finished product. It's so much fun. Priced around 70 dollars may seem like a lot but it is incredibly reasonable for what you're getting. This is a winner on every level.
