  • COUNTERFEIT-VERIFIED BY MANUFACTURER
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
The RODE NTG2 microphone I received is counterfeit. Serial number is not valid as determined by manufacturer who has warning right on their front page of their website advising of counterfeit RODE mics being sold on Amazon

  • Can't Give It 5 Stars, Here's Why...
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
I went on Ebay and got an older-model Audio-Technica long shotgun that works amazingly well and a $25 Lyx Pro. Still, I had heard that Peter McKinnon and Curtis Judd use the NTG2 (at least sometimes). Rather than not get a warranty, I made sure to order directly from Amazon (and not Fulfilled by Amazon, which voids the warranty). Bought this brand new. I get it delivered and plug it up and there's an electrical hum when I use the microphone plugged into my Zoom F4 using AC power. This hum is not there while on batter power with the Zoom F4. Strange. Not even the cheap $25 shotgun from Lyx does that. I have other microphones from Rode (Broadcaster, smartLav+, Video MicMe) and they all work exceedingly well. I was quite taken aback when I realized I have an audio issue with this NTG2 mic. I love the quality of the microphone when there is no hum. It sounds pretty good. I will keep it at 3 stars until Rode return my inquiry and inform me if this is how the mic is or if there may be some defect/repair option available. ... show more

  • if one XLR pin is longer than the other 2, don't worry...
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
FYI: If you notice pin 1 on the mic is longer than the others, don't worry. This is a design feature of all or most XLR Rode mics. The following is from Rode's website: Why is one pin of the XLR connector longer than the other two? is this normal? Yes, this is perfectly normal and is a design feature of the RØDE microphone. The ground XLR pin (pin 1) is designed to be slightly longer than the other two pins. This is to ensure that when an XLR is plugged into the mic XLR socket the first pin that comes into contact is the ground pin. This feature is implemented in all RØDE microphones to protect the microphone circuitry from a static electricity short that could potentially damage the microphone circuitry. ... show more

  • Watch out for the RF interference and be ready to use a LOT of hiss reduction
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
When I first used this microphone, I noticed a constant buzzing sound in my recording and I thought the device was effective. The other microphone I used was a studio microphone and I never had this problem before. I use a Focusrite Clarett 4Pre USB with a balanced MOGAMI XLR to XLR cable. No other condenser mic I have have this issue. I eventually fixed the problem, the XLR cable was sitting on some AC wires causing the buzz. Additionally, the noise floor is pretty bad, there is a white hiss that I will always have to remove in Adobe Audition. Lacking a bit of high end too for my favor but the tonality is decent for a shotgun microphone. I have a proper room with fiberglass sound proofing for studio use and no other mic have this much hiss. It is also very low signal for a shotgun microphone IMO. ... show more

  • The Best Shotgun Mic I've Found So Far
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
I haven't really been tickled or impressed by any of the shotgun mics I've tried from Zoom, Rode, or Deity, but this is the best one so far. It has good sound quality, and the ability to use a AA battery for phantom power is a bonus. I like Rode, I have one of their large-diaphragm condenser mics, and so I trust the company. They are attempting to make the best products they can, without a lot of nonsense. There are better shotgun mics out there, but not for the money this one costs. Also, this is truly a classic shotgun mic. There is a large body of work recorded on this mic, and tons of review, so you know what you are getting with this mic-- and that's important when you don't want to gamble on an unknown brand or design. ... show more

  • Good microphone. Buy elsewhere if you want manufacturer support.
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
This microphone reproduces sound very well, is a bit hypersensitive, and somewhat a challenge in a live room. The manufacturer (Rode) will only support this (warranty and otherwise) if purchased from an authorized dealer which does NOT include anyone on Amazon. Apparently there have been issues with counterfeiting, selling of used or (not necessary visibly) damaged merchandise. As to the price quoted here, pretty much the street price from authorized dealers so their policy is not trying to take advantage of the customer. Visit the Rode website for details. ... show more

  • Great for DSLR Video
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
This has been on my list since I got my Canon 60D. My first project with the setup was recording a marching band competition. Previous years I just used the built-in X-Y mics on my Zoom H4n. This year I was able to mix in a track from this mic, recorded on the DSLR's audio track (using a dual-mono-wired cable). Excellent off-axis rejection allowed me to reduce loud persons that lack the courtesy to be quiet during a performance, and also one guy who decided to come up and ask me questions as I was shooting/recording a performance (during editing, I faded the mix to the Rode at those points). Second project was a middle-school play in a cafeteria with a stage. Same setup. This time the audio from the Zoom just wasn't usable (small room with glass on two sides, hard ceiling and floor, humming from kitchen appliances nearby) but the NTG2's off-axis rejection made the audio as good as it could possibly be recorded from the back of the room in such a venue. I also chose the Rode shockmount and WS6 sock over the dead-cat based on reviews and comparison recordings on YouTube. ... show more

  • Used with the right preamp, this mic is beautiful and crisp.
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
Ok so I was debating on this or the NTG-3. I was completely sold on the NTG-3, until I personally used the NTG-2. A lot of people say you can't tell the difference between mics until you compare. Well that is true, however a lot of people do not record the correct way and then sometimes good mics sound bad and bad mics sound good. I use this in conjunction with my Zoom H6 which has beautiful preamps. The sound is amazing. The quality is superb. I am super happy with this as I know how to use it 'correctly' and have gotten superior results over any other mic I've used in the past. I also use this with the RODE Blimp to cut out all wind noise. Used correctly, this can match the NTG3 quality and results. Save the money and buy this with the RODE Blimp and still save $100 ... show more
