Features

  • High quality studio microphone with the convenience of USB connectivity
  • Mic St Mount
  • USB Condenser Microphone with Tripod Base
  • Carrying Case

Description

The NT-USB is a highly versatile side-address microphone that is ideal for recording singing and musical performances in addition to spoken applications such as podcasting and voice-over. It is fully compatible with all mainstream recording applications on both Windows and Mac OS based computers, as well as the Apple iPad using Rode Rec, Garage Band, or any other recording app that accepts an external microphone. Use on the Apple iPad requires a suitable USB connection adaptor, such as the Apple Camera Connection Kit. The body of the NT-USB features a zero-latency stereo headphone monitoring (3.5mm) jack, which allows you to monitor the microphone input in real-time, along with dials to adjust the monitoring level and mix between the computer/iPad audio and the microphone input. A premium pop-filter is included, which fits onto the base of the mic, positioning the filter the ideal distance from the capsule to minimize plosives (hard 'B', 'T' or 'P' sounds that produce a harsh sound) during singing or speech. Also provided is a high-quality stand mount with industry standard 3/8" thread, desktop tripod stand that allows the NT-USB to sit at a comfortable height on a tabletop, and a pouch for storage of the microphone when not in use. Compatible with both Windows and Mac computers, as well as the Apple iPad via the USB camera connection kit (available directly from Apple) Gain setting: When the gain is set too high, the microphone will be too sensitive and can pick up room noise that can even be heard as a hiss. When the gain is set too low, the microphone will be barely audible. Compatible with the SMR shockmount & WS2 foam windshield.

  • Awesome Microphone for Voice Over Work
Model name: NT-USB Color: Black
I must have done 40 hours of research before purchasing this mic. As a radio producer, I must be looking for ways to get great quality but within a modest budget, and this microphone does the trick. It is crisp, clear, and has a great sound to it. One of the VO talents we use has a higher pitched voice and this microphone brought out more of the bass in his voice, which makes his voice sound very good! Do yourself a favor and buy a metal stand, like the On Stage DS7200B Adjustable Desk Microphone Stand. I think to keep the price down, Rode includes a very basic stand, but it really is not the right stand for this top-heavy microphone. Keep in mind, this being a condenser microphone, it will pick up EVERYTHING in the room including the sound of the room itself. Make sure no fans, A/C, humming or background noise of any kind is present, or the mic will pick it up. I would recommend using a carpeted room with lots of soft sound absorbent material in the room to absorb reverb. All in all, I'm very happy with this mic, so much that I've bought multiple ones and send them out to voice talent. It's super easy to use, being plug in play. You don't need any extra sound gear, so it's perfect for anyone. Thanks Rode for making great quality gear at a modest price! ... show more

  • Outstanding, solid build, sounds fantastic + good customer service
Model name: NT-USB Color: Black
I use this for live streaming and Discord calls and the audio quality is outstanding. I was using the Blue Yeti before which had good quality BUT quickly developed an issue where there was a high pitch whine whenever I spoke. I've owned this RODE mic for a few months and there is zero whine. I'll update my review if any problems show up with the RODE. The mic is pretty heavy. Maybe very slightly smaller and lighter than the YETI. The built in pop filter is nice since it's takes up so little space compared to a third party one. My biggest con is I wish one of the knobs adjusted the pickup sensitivity. The mic is sensitive which I deal with by using a gate on my voice, which works great. The extra knob would just be a small convenience. All in all, this is a great microphone for streaming, podcasting, or general chatting online. I haven't tested it for singing yet. Highly recommend. EDIT: The piece that connects the microphone to my mic stand broke after a year, however getting a replacement was very easy. I sent them an email with a picture of the broken piece and they sent a replacement which arrived about a week later. Was all in all very easy to deal with, however I did register the mic's warranty online so make sure you do that when you get this. Good company! ... show more

  • Good Mid-High Level Mic, Great Customer Service
Model name: NT-USB Color: Black
The microphone in terms of sound quality is about what you'd get for the price. It works surprisingly well in multiple conditions, but does pick up a bit on background noise (noticeable if you put the sound up, I could hear my neighbors talking on the highest sound setting(ouch)). In order to get great sound, I had to finnick around with it, but I have a good setup now. On on the customer service. If you register your microphone on the Rode website, you get the extended warranty on the product, and amazing customer service. The reason I had to get a support ticket, was because the microphone mount that this came with broke in half. I was hanging it off at a odd angle on my microphone stand, but the tolerance should have been there. Anyways, I got a support ticket, got a response in a few hours, and after saying my address, a replacement was shipped out. The replacement came in a day or two, but the clamping action was very weak. Another support ticket, and they sent me one of their higher end shock mounts. The one they sent has been working like a charm, and I've been happy since. The sound quality is good, the support is great, and the peripherals that came with it aren't the best. However, this is a great starter microphone for mid to high level quality recording. ... show more

  • Great microphone, meh tripod, oof seller. Great microphone, meh tripod, oof seller.
Model name: NT-USB Color: Black
If you're checking the product page for this microphone, then it is likely you already know this is one of the best, if not the best, USB microphone available (definitely the best if you consider the price range). I won't go into much detail about the sound, as better audio reviews of it are available on youtube, but I'll say the build quality for it is really solid. It is a mostly metal, subtle imitation of the Rode NT series of microphones. Perhaps the only part that leaves you wanting a little bit more about it is the small tripod and the O-ring that comes with it. They're plastic and leave a little to be desired. It seems from what I've read in some sites these parts are usually the first to break if you're not careful with your microphone. That being said, a good boom arm will easily solve this trouble. And in case the O-ring below your microphone breaks, cracks or otherwise, there are some people who make custom metal ones, being that you could also instead buy a Rode SMR shockmount (the only compatible shock mount I know of for this microphone) which will come with a metal O-Ring to attach the microphone to it. All of that being said, it seems I might have received some kind of refurbished unit from the seller "Adorama." The unit was safely packed, but in the back of the microphone there are some scratches that should definitely not have been there because of how beefy the packaging stereofoam around the microphone is. These could also be a QA issue with Rode, but I really have no way of knowing which of the 2 is responsible. It's probably not a big issue as the unit seems to be working perfectly, but it is definitely something worth noticing. All in all, don't hesitate on the purchase, it is a great microphone. ... show more

  • Great beginner- intermediate microphone.
Model name: NT-USB Color: Black
After buying this microphone and using it every day for almost a year, I have realized that this is a great first microphone for most people. The USB connection allows for plug- and- play functionality, which is very convenient (However, if you are looking to get into actual studio- level voice recording, you would know that an XLR microphone allows for better control over the sound of your voice). This microphone sounds very high quality, living up to its 'studio- quality' claim. It has a nice feedback feature if you plug in your headphones/ earbuds, etc. into the audio output jack on the side of the microphone. You can even adjust the volume of the feedback, which also has no delay (instant feedback). I myself do not usually use this feature as I do not sing, but it is nice to check from time to time to make sure that nothing unusual is happening. I use this microphone every day since I am on my computer playing games with friends and talking to them on Discord and sometimes streaming. In conclusion, there is only a small amount of people that would go wrong buying this microphone. ... show more

  • On scissor arm with Pyle Isolation Shield On scissor arm with Pyle Isolation Shield
Model name: NT-USB Color: Black
I mounted this along with the Pyle PSMRS08 Compact Microphone Isolation Shield, on the Eastshining Upgraded Adjustable Microphone Scissor Arm, and the setup works great. I was a bit worried about the weight on the scissor arm, and whether the isolation shield hardware would do the trick, but it all worked out fine with a minimum of fidgeting. The microphone quality is phenomenal and plenty good enough for radio and podcast work. The ability to hear both sides of the conversation in my headphones is a great help. And, as an added bonus, the microphone setup works as a USB plug-and-play headset for my Polycom VVX-500 VOIP phone. The only piece of feedback I have for Rode is that the configuration of the controls is a bit odd. It would make more sense for one knob to control source volume ("them") and the other one to control self volume ("me"). Instead, one knob controls overall volume ("them plus me") and the other controls % blend between source and self ("them versus me"). This means as the source volume changes you have to sometimes make adjustments to both knobs which takes a little getting used to. (Updating review with a picture to clarify.) But it's not a big deal, just a small quirk. Excellent product! ... show more

  • Honestly impressed by the hardware at this price
Model name: NT-USB Color: Black
Does exactly what you'd expect a good mic to do. It's made even better by being USB, the USB connection means you don't need any additional hardware to achieve high quality audio recordings even without being in a sound booth. Likes: - Low price in relation to other mics at this performance level - Plug and Play for Windows 7/8, iOS, Android - In-line monitor headphone jack - Monitor balance (mic/device mix) - Monitor volume - Built-in vibration/shock mount - Desk Tri-pod (non adjustable legs/feet) stand included - Pop filter/screen included Dislikes - Included zippered sleeve style case (would have liked a soft/cloth wrapped hard-shell clip-closure or zippered case for the mic at least) - That I only needed 1 of them for now General Comments There are a few professional/high-end recording artists and/or sound engineers (neither of which would apply to me) who have created independent video reviews showing the mic in use vs. the competition (some of those mics are 3 or 4 times the price of the NT-USB), and the overwhelming feedback has been that this mic is worth the price! I'd seriously suggest hitting your favorite video site and doing a search for review videos showing this mic in action, as like with any mic, there are technical recording aspects (high/low, ambient/pickup, etc...), that if they are important to you, the pro's highlight and discuss in more detail than I could do here. In general though, if you're using a basic mic and considering taking your recording to the next level, or want a high quality/inexpensive replacement (or additional) mic that can be taken with you, this might be the mic you want to seriously consider. ... show more

  • A seriously heavy and wieldy mic A seriously heavy and wieldy mic
Model name: NT-USB Color: Black
This mic is not for the feint of heart. My researched showed this to be a high quality product capable of exceptional recording quality. What I underestimated was the sheer size and weight. After I overcame that shock the next challenge was finding options to attach it to my streaming station. The included base is usable but in my opinion an insult the the construction of the mic. Installation was straight forward and operation has been a joy. The usb attaches to the underside of the mic forcing the mount for the mic to offset the mic on an articulating arm. While not ideal some creative adjustments and components seem to have solved that issue. I was a bit surprised that it picked up background noise several rooms away in my home. I didn’t not expect that, nor do I want it. I have not found a way to adjust its sensitivity but I love its operation and production quality. ... show more
