Description

Designed for high power applications in PA speaker mains, DJ touring speakers, sub-woofers and bass guitar systems the new Rockville Bass Rider Subwoofers are a milestone in high-power subwoofer design. The 18” woofers have an incredible power handling of 900 watts RMS/1800 watts peak. These “extra-long throw” woofers can reach amazing sound pressure levels of 105dB with clean, deep bass down to 20Hz that will rattle the walls of any venue! Utilizing a new propriety mix of materials; the cones are Kevlar-impregnated making them stronger and tougher than your average pro audio woofer cone. A newly designed “treated asymmetrical-W shape surround” provides for superior excursion and linear motion control. The speaker connection terminals are high quality nickel-plated screw style terminals and accept large gauge wire. The terminals are attached to large diameter, high current tinsel leads with silver solder to withstand high current and high temperatures during long excursions. The Rockville Bass Rider woofers’ voice coil use a specially formulated, polyimide-insulated, high temperature wire, designed especially for high SPL response. The winding is bonded onto an incredibly durable and heat resistant aluminum composite former. The voice coil winding length is an incredible 1”, which is 80% longer than most standard pro woofers voice coils. The long coil dissipates heat over a larger area and the increased length drives the cone to higher excursions. The coil is layered with a tough thermoset clear epoxy for added durability, abrasion and heat resistance. The voice coil assembly is bonded to the cone’s “double, linear-progressive Nomex spider”, using a thermoset epoxy adhesive. The spider and surround are bonded to the frame with a high strength cyanoacrylate adhesive, which is also used to bond the dust cap to the cone.

  • Seriously impressed- I've owned many different subs, and these deliver!
Style: 4 Ohm
I'm a reformed brand snob when it come to audio equipment. I have a recording studio in my house along with a pretty elaborate home theater system, a separate and elaborate gaming system, a 2 channel system just for music and a PA system that I use for parties. Playing in a band for many years exposed me to a lot of different equipment as well, so I think I have a good feel for what works and what doesn't. These speakers don't just deliver "for the price" but they actually just deliver. If you paint over the labels on the dust caps, nobody will know what they are- they'll just know they sound good. I'm still in a little disbelief that these work so well for so cheap. I had two of those super cheap $129 18" Rockville subs for our basement system the kids use to have "dance parties" with their other little kid friends. Those subs were ok, but for the money they were a great deal. They are so much lighter than my JBL amplified 18" that I can take my system places for parties etc. I'm driving them with a crest audio 3.0DSP amp which is pretty powerful and clean. Before blowing up my cheap subs by driving them too hard, I read about these speakers- and the power handling was much more in line with what I was using. Swapped these into those old cheap (but light) cabinet and... wow! Super punchy with great extension down low. I listen to a wide range of music, but the best way to see if a sub is up to it is running some funk, jazz etc through them. These sound better than my JBL 618S's... and not just a little better. They can play bass heavy modern dance stuff or pull off very musical material as well. Even considering what I paid for those cabinets, two of these w/cabinets comes in at about half the price of just one powered JBL sub. One on one against the JBL, hate to say it- the JBL falls flat. I'm simply amazed at these. If you plan to use these in the RBG1184 cabinet, remove the plastic tubes for the ports to avoid port noise. Wish I did this a while ago. The only people I know of who didn't have great results with these- it was probably user error... If someone is blowing one (or more) of these up, they're probably clueless how to use audio equipment. Feed these things REAL power from a quality source and they'll rattle your internal organs. ... show more

  • Strong speaker good price
Style: 4 Ohm
Very good speaker. I know a lot of DJs use them but they work very well with a live band PA system.

  • Not what I expected
Style: 4 Ohm
Not satisfied with the bass output. I purchased two of these to replace the original speakers which blew out unexpectedly. Not impressed with the output. The bass seems weaker than the prior speakers but they work and haven't peaked on me yet.

  • Surprisingly great sub for not much cash!
Style: 4 Ohm
I bought this to replace the driver in the powered sub at the night club where I work. We are a small operation and every penny counts. I waited a couple months before posting a review to see how it was going to hold up. So far it has exceeded my expectations. It sounds really good and handles 5 hours of pounding a night, 4-5 nights a week. Seems to be a great buy for the money, far, far better than the Pyle sub that only lasted a few months, despite having higher wattage ratings and a much bigger magnet. Seems to be a solid buy for short money. ... show more
