  • Great Value, Largest Speaker Weight...takes the place of the whimpy performance tower.
Size: 10 inch Pattern: PA Subwoofer
I saw this same amp in what looks to be the same box...with different names by at least 3 different companies. I am perty sure they come out of some Chinese factory/city. Then, the company here in the USA that puts their label on it, also selects a Speaker..as we have speakers available here that are competitive and it helps cut down on the shipping. I chose the Rockville company that handles this as they stated they had the heaviest weight speaker installed of the other companies. I bought two of these for a Bose like system on steroids..at 1/4 the cost. I bought 2 Galaxy 4 x 5" speakers for the line array style mid/high range as they cover up above what people can hear without a large fall in response up there. I also put a blocking network in them to block below 200 Hz from the Galaxys. So, I power them with a little one rack space amp of 200w per side...more than enough for my small to medium solo gigs, and am happy with the system I have put together. The rockville subs cut start cutting off frequency at about 175 hz and sound somewhat mute for frequency above what they are designed...such as kick bass and low bass. There is a control that adjusts this frequency sweep...I have it set on the highest level. These have also a volume control and a Nutrix input and output that takes a Balanced input or 1/4" line. I drive these full volume and they seem to take a large amount of low level signal to drive them. The box feels strong and they are a bit heavier than you expect...but that is good. The carpet cover appears of minimal thickness and quality from China, the corners have typical quality metal covers and the handles on each side are plastic and adequate. These also have pole holes ot the common size in the USA, I forget that dimension and if I remember...I am perty sure they are plastic and not metal...but could be wrong. All in all I like having been able to find a 10" little sub at this price to mate with my 10" 2 way Peaveys I some times use and also my new Galaxy 4 x 5" speakers that I also fly on top of these with poles. These subs are heavy enough to use a pole up to say 5' and put either of my mid/high sets of speakers on...as long as someone does not fall into them while intoxicated. The system has all the same perks of a Bose system that would range around 2 grand all for under 500. if you have a small amp in your rack to drive the mid/high speakers... I do it this way cause I play on the beach and like NOT to have amps or electronic that are exposed out in the high air to corrode from the Salt air... It also gives me flexibility to not use the subs in very quiet dinner settings. My friends have both over priced Bose and HK systems in the same design style of having no High end Horns that are harsh and cause feed back. I just dont like the sound of their little 2" multiple array speakers...so I went with the Galaxy with it's 5" array design and have a nice sounding system for cheap...I could have a quad surround sound system in each of the 4 corners of a performance room for the same price as the Bose system. Now I just have to have some custom bags made for the Galaxy mid/high speakers to keep them safe. If you want the maximum thump from 2 of these subs...place them side by side and make sure the phase shift switch...also on the back is set the same for each. That phase shift switch by the way compensates for the type of crossover on the top speakers. That top end crossover can make the top signal 90,180, or 360 degrees out of phase...as crossovers are named 1st order, 2nd order, 3 order and 4th order/360 degrees...the 360 is not so common but puts the tops completely out of phase with the bottom subs...so that is why subs have a phase switch and that is why your cords to them should be the same supplier or same polarity. You want the whole system pumping the same direction on hard hits of sound....and even small ones. ... show more

  • Once you set it up it's a performer!!

Ok let me tell you that The RGB15S Active Subwoofer is an amazing little package. I ordered two of these to pair with my RPG12 Active speakers for use at an outdoor festival. The Subwoofers are built very well, the carpeting of the cabinets seemed a little lacking in QA/QC but none the less was effective and clean. The input section is very user friendly and marked in such a way that it’s nearly impossible to not connect these properly. The sound quality is also impressive, I have seen various videos on Youtube that show muffled or distorted subwoofers I am assuming this is because the RGB15S units were not set up property or had signal going to them that was distorted. The playback from the sub at my events was tight and accurate. Much better than I was expecting. On a scale of 1 – 10 I would give the RGB152 an 8-8.5 rating. Definitely enough quality sound and volume for any mobile DJ indoor or outdoor venue. The RGB15S subwoofer has an onboard DPS that is pretty user friendly. Pick a disposition and slide the selector switch to the setting and you’re in business. There is also a onboard crossover with 3 crossover points, again very easy to use, pick your desired Xover point and slide the switch. I have seen many user videos & reviews of these subs that really do not do them justice. The key to setting these subwoofers (or any speaker for that matter) up correctly is having your signal source or controller set up property. Poor signal source = Poor sound. Start with the DSP set to OFF and the Xover point set to 80hz. turn the gain pot on the RGB15S to “zero” (all the way to the left) Assuming your Controller is set up and “zeroed to no more than +3db” (your digital meters are not constantly in the red, only bouncing in the orange and peaking in the red from time to time) connect your sub to the controller and play a track with reasonable bass and at full program volume. (NOTE: YOUR TOP SPEAKERS ARE OFF AT THIS POINT NO SOUND AT ALL FROM THEM). Once music is playing, slowly increase the gain (turn to the right) on your RGB15S until you hear sound coming from your sub. Continue to increase the Gain pot until you begin to hear distortion and see the clip light flash vigorously, slowly turn the gain pot back to the left until the CLIP light only quickly FLASHES on bass notes. Then Turn it a tiny bit to the left more. This should give you a good “live play back” setting on the sub. At this point connect your TOP speakers and adjust their volume accordingly. If the low end sound is not quite right, at this point you can adjust the Xover frequency on the sub, I would recommend lowering the volume when doing this. I have found that when using the RPG12 powered system (input gain set to 5 and unit volume set to 6), the 100hz setting blends the best for most music types. You can also adjust the DSP if you are looking to boost the bottom end but I have found that the DSP seems to distort the sound coming from the subwoofer and 99.9% of the time leave that set to off. I have used TWO RPG12 tops and TWO RBG15S bottoms at outdoor events in 90* Full sun conditions and ran them nonstop at peak volume for over 5 hours with no problems. The amp on the RGB15S was not even hot when the event was over. The NON POWERED pass though outputs provide for easy connection to my RPG12 tops. For the price point I am extremely impressed with the RGB15S subwoofer. The only thing I would like to see on these for the future are “recessed wheels” so you can tip and roll the subs when needed. out of the box I did have one RGB15S arrive DOA. However the Team at Rockville was quick to help resolve my issues. The initially sent me a replacement amp, when that did not fix the issue, they issued a replacement RGB15S for me and set up an RMA and return shipping label for the DOA unit. The whole return/swap took about 5 days. In closing, the RGB15S is a lot of bang for your buck. When set up properly you’ll get good sound quality with tons of volume. On board Xovers and DSP settings add value to the package. Priced at approximately $250each with free shipping (amazon or rockville site) you really cant go wrong. ... show more
