Description

Rocksmith is the fastest way to learn guitar and bass. Join over 3 million players who have learned with the award-winning Rocksmith method. Like a personal guitar teacher, Rocksmith listens to you play and adapts to your skill level, slowly introducing more techniques and phrases until you're playing your favorite songs note-for-note. Rocksmith works with (A) any electric guitar or bass with a 1/4" output jack using the included cable, or (B) with any acoustic guitar or bass using a pickup with a 1/4" output jack or using a dedicated USB microphone (both not included). This Remastered version of Rocksmith was released in October 2016. It includes an update to the original Rocksmith 2014 Edition that adds a customizable learning curve, expanded practice tools, stat tracking, improved menus, six additional bonus songs, and more. If you already own the original Rocksmith 2014 Edition, the Remastered update can be downloaded for free and the additional songs can be purchased separately. • Great!
Platform For Display: PC/Mac Edition: Remastered + Cable
-NEW REVIEW EDITED IN- So, having waited on Rocksmith 2014's key, as I had the same issue as many and didn't receive it, I got the older version of Rocksmith on Steam to try out the cable. This means I now have a bit of perspective on both games, and while I enjoyed Rocksmith Classic, I have to say 2014 Remastered is BY FAR the superior version. Thankfully, Ubisoft support was rather quick to get me my software key. The only reason it took me so long to actually update this review is that I've been having a blast with this software, and have been practicing not only the available default library, but a few of the DLC tracks, too. This game is probably a great supplemental tool to those learning guitar through traditional means, but I really had no traditional training, mostly teaching myself very simple songs prior to this via tablature. It's VERY easy to pick up, and the game gives you a tutorial for the first bit in the form of recommended items. You can either ignore these (and end up completing them as you go due to the simple nature of the game, unlocking little goodies to change your fret board's appearance and amps), or you can follow them to learn how the system functions. I STRONGLY ADVISE THE LATTER as it allows you to get the most out of your experience, and shows you where everything properly is. If you're worried that the game will leave out specific details on technique, you should know that aside from playing tracks from the library of songs, there's also the option to watch and practice in interactive tutorial videos (featuring real guitarists), play in the 'Guitarcade' (which allows you to practice techniques, from simple volume control to slides, chords, bends and scales!), or participate in a more Guitar Hero-esque mode with set difficulties. The game adjusts its difficulty by how well you play, so the quicker you learn, the quicker it will adapt and unlock the 'real guitar score', and doing it this way makes it incredibly rewarding. I'm already making great progress on songs like 'My Next Girl', 'Thnx fr the Mmrs', and 'Tribute'. I seriously cannot recommend this product enough, and encourage anyone with an electric guitar or bass to pick it up with the cable, but BE WARNED that ordering it through Amazon has had a high rate of shipments arriving without the CD code, so you may have to request it through Ubisoft. It didn't take long for it to get to me, though; they had it the next day, and apologized for the inconvenience. Speaking of Ubisoft, some tracks have 'alternative tracks' hidden behind Uplay. If there's one criticism I must give the game, it's this baffling requirement, but it's really not too troublesome, and it's not necessary to download Uplay to get enjoyment out of the game. However, if you want those, it's needed. But that's really not much of a downside. -ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW- Well, should have listened to the other reviewers. No product key in the box. I may actually give a review of the product once I can play it. Which will be when the issue's resolved through Ubisoft. Good grief. ... show more

Platform For Display: PC/Mac Edition: Remastered + Cable
I have been lamenting the end of the rhythm game era for some time: the controllers for Guitar Hero and Rock Band were never great, and the attempted improvements have just made them worse. I was skeptical of Rocksmith; I didn't think it could read the subtitles of an actual stringed instrument as well as I wanted. Happily I was wrong. Plug the USB cable into your guitar and into your PC, and Windows will see it as a microphone. After that it's all jammin'. This 'game' is a LOT of fun to play and genuinely helps you become a better musician. If you love guitars, get Rocksmith. If you hate guitars, get Rocksmith and learn to love them. For the record, the guitars I use are a Traveler Pro Mod X, and by beloved Jackson JS2 bass. Both of them work great. The only guitar that I have seen that did not work with this game is my acoustic bass with a lousy piezo. So take my advice, don't buy an acoustic bass with a lousy piezo. ... show more

  • Fun Learning Tool
Platform For Display: PC/Mac Edition: Remastered + Cable
A fantastic a learning tool for true beginners to advanced It dynamically assesses your skill level and adjusts accordingly. If you are playing along and having trouble, it slows the song down so you can be more accurate. It also has a riff function that let's you practice a musical phrase that is giving you trouble until you master it. Also, like a good teacher, it gives you encouragement. Works very well with bass or electric and can teach bass, lead, and rhythm guitar. Comes with a ton of songs and others are downloadable for a price. I've used it with Gibsons, Epiphones, and Fenders and they all work well. Includes ability to save your results and share with your friends. Like a game you win rewards (like pedals, effects, amps, and more) and you can trade in the community. I like it as I'm building my skills on bass (beginner) and guitar (advanced). Setup was smooth on my PC. The PC version also comes with a MAC disc ... show more

  • I can't say enough good things about this game
Platform For Display: PC/Mac Edition: Remastered + Cable
TLDR: buy the game. I can't say enough good things about this game. I've been a pianist and drummer on and off for a long time, having once been pretty darn good. Then I started working a 40+ hour work week and it never really went anywhere after that. I wanted to learn guitar as well, but just didn't seem to be able to teach myself well. I took about 10 lessons, but my teacher wasn't great -- basically just said "so, what do you want to learn this week?" How about, you're the damn teacher, you tell me what I should be learning for $60 an hour! Dang! I waited about a year to buy Rocksmith after seeing it because it's spendy for a "game" and I'm a half-price game kind of guy. I wish I had not waited. I have honestly learned so much just in the few days I've had it that I wish I had bought it the second I discovered it. There are only two complaints I have: 1) You can't silence the instrument in the music. It's cheaper to just use the song rather than the individual tracks, so to silence the lead guitar, say, if you are playing lead, you have to silence the entire musical track. Not a huge deal, but it can make you seound better than it should. :) 2) The interpretation of the tones by the software isn't 100% perfect, but it's dang good. This is only really a problem when you're playing some of the mini-games in the Guitarcade and it hoses you and loses the game. But, it's definitely good enough for me in most other ways. If you have a guitar sitting in the closet that you've always wanted to play but just haven't had the time or inclination to pick it up in a long time, then buy this game. I've seen some people have issues with no activation code being included. Can't comment on that. I got one, and I had only some hardware tweaking to do to get it to work. JUST BUY IT! ... show more
