I have been turning for over 10 years and final purchased a Sorby set. They are without a doubt one of the finest turning tools available. Very sturdy and keeps a sharp edge longer than other tools.

Good overall. HSS is tricky to learn how to sharpen, but this is a good set for beginners and gets decent quality lathe tools for less that it would cost to buy them individually. Good for spindle turning more than bowl turning, which is usually where beginners start.

I read some other reviews that these are Grizzly chisels? Maybe I Read wrong but these are certainly Robert Sorby chisels made in Sheffield England. Top Top quality. You cannot go wrong with it. I believe it was shipped by Grizzly though... came in a nice box. Nothing wrong with them whatsoever. You can plan on sharpening these before use to whatever angle you desire - this is standard for all turning tools that are bought brand new. I also read someplace else someone complaining they weren't sharp. They aren't! But that is par for the industry. You have to sharpen them yourself. ... show more

I bought this set as a gift. I had heard good things about the brand, and purchased the starter set. Unfortunately, after three uses, the parting tool broke off at the handle. There was no refund as they said if it breaks at the handle, that's because of "a catch" which isn't warrantied. I feel a good set, which I thought I had bought, should last longer than three uses. ... show more
