  • Quality product.
Installed and working. Love it.

  • Easy installation and great performance
I like how the water heater came with the isolation valves. Saved a lot of space! The instructions for operation are clear, it has multiple options to get better performance or more efficiency.

  • good decent tankless water heater. But expensive.
We replaced an almost new Rheem 50 gallon tank with this water heater. We did this stupidity to save space in our garage. We got it installed. No hot water or luke warm water. If we did get some hot water, we would get a spout of cold water in between. I called customer support and they mentioned that my shower was not constantly withdrawing water at the same pressure. That fooled the heater and the it would turn off. I had 2 choices ... fix all the taps, faucets and showers or return this unit. We decided to return the unit. UPDATE: 7 days later. We blamed the 1/2 inch gas pipeline for the problem. But technical support at Rinnai cleared our doubts that the gas pipeline was not the issue. Our vent was a 3inch metal/ aluminum vent. We disconnected from the vent and that solved the problem. We then replaced the vent with a PVC pipe which fixed the issue. We now get hot water consistently. As usual, the technical support team mis-guided us about the water pressure in the shower etc. I would recommend this water heater. I am not sure if going tankless was a good choice or not. If I could turn back the clock, I would have preferred to keep my 50 gallon tank water heater and not go through all the headaches. Dont get excited about tankless, if you have an old water heater which works, dont replace it. Update 10 days later: Buyers should know that they will need to spend an extra $125 for the wifi module. The listing for the RU180IN is mis-leading. It is circulation ready but you will need to spend an extra $350 or $400 on a pump to circulate the water. Only the Rinnai RURxxxxx models have a built in pump which will cost $1850 - $2000. I will be talking to Amazon regarding the deceptive listing of the product. ... show more

  • Endless hot water, just little noisier
Like not having to wait for baths and showers. Replaced a 60 gal tank. Takes about 10 more seconds to get to hot than a tank (no dedicated hot water recirculation). The fan makes a low frequency noise that travels through the house. It’s not loud, about 35 dB but it’s a bit annoying at first. I reinstalled with a double drywall and acoustic membrane plus rubber isolation mounts which reduced the dB as bit. Fan also kicked on from water pulse from using cold water, mostly from toilet. I bought a check valve for the cold water to prevent this but the Rinnai learning function seemed to address this before I needed to install it. Happy overall. ... show more

  • Not as hot, if I would have known I wouldn't have bought it.
I feel my old water heater was hotter, - than this one.

  • So far so good
I installed the unit myself. I'm not in the trades but have quite a bit of experience installing stuff. This was my second tankless. First was electric and it sucked. So far I'm very happy. It was a pretty easy install and works great. Cost wise was about $1000 more than the electric but if it continues to perform and doesn't break its worth it ... show more

  • Works fantastic
Delivered super fast. Needed it because my current water tank sprung a leak. If you are a DIY this is an easy install. Can take sometime running exhaust and intake lines if your basement is finished. If not it would be a piece of cake. Once installed it runs great. I can run multiple devices without temperature fluctuations. You will get a little water pressure drop when running more than two showers but not enough to bother you. All in all I am very satisfied. ... show more

  • Slow to get dot water
I self installed this with a dedicated recirc line and pump. Not difficult with basic plumbing skills. The manual wants it on a dedicated circuit, so some electrical skills are needed too. The Rinnai instructions often contradict themselves. Their support people vary from really good to not helpful. It has been in for 16 months. The water heater has done what it's supposed to do. However, it takes a long time to get hot water. With the old tank water heater it took 10-15 seconds at the kitchen tap. With the Rinnai it takes 30-45 seconds. I did install the on-demand recirculation (control-r accessory) so we can turn on the recirculation pump. This greatly reduces hot water time, but it still takes longer than with the tank water heater. It's great if you can activate it far enough ahead of when you need hot water, then it's nearly instant when you turn on the tap. Before you think the control-r accessory is great, let me say that it loses the blue tooth pairing with the buttons at least monthly. Repairing is a 10 minute task for our three buttons. Less frequently the control-r loses wifi so the phone apps stop working too. It recently has failed to connect to anything and my control-r might be bad. Water heater still works, just no recirculation. We saw no decrease in our energy use based on a year to year comparison. I would not buy the tankless water heater again without a good reason. It's just too slow to give hot water and the control -r accessory is unreliable. I only bought it to save space so we could make a small remodel project work. I call it a thankless waterheater. Four stars because the water heater has been reliable. Slowness loses it a star. ... show more
