  • Improves the battery life

Do the job. Makes a little longer the time to recharge the battery. Easy to install. And the app will tell you if it's working or not. Nice improvement

  • Works perfectly if you have the right location
Configuration: for Ring Video Doorbell 3, 3+, 4...
I read the negative reviews before buying and decided that there were enough counterpoints to decide that the people having problems were having issues with what they have done, not with the charger. Like all solar panels, this is a trickle charger. It will generally only trickle power in slowly. However, having direct sun access is crucial because... well, its a solar panel. The sun tops the houses across the street from me early in the morning and climbs up above the edge of my roof above the door about four hours later. With that limited amount of direct sun, my Battery Doorbell Pro's battery will add about 20% charge per day thanks to this panel. Some Ring doorbells use 'optimized charging' where the cell is supposed to only charge up to a max of 80%. This 80% limit can be difficult to trigger for reasons beyond the scope of this review, but I found that on the BD Pro, if the cell is already fully charged prior to the solar charger's installation, the solar panel will do absolutely nothing until the battery gets down to about 70%. Only then will the solar charger start charging. When it does, it charges up to only 80% (stopping at 81%, actually). From there, with the sun I get, the solar charger will maintain between 70 and 80% battery charge indefinitely. I have the DBPro set to take snapshots every three minutes and do everything else that eats extra battery power. The direct sun access I get lets me do that. If your direct sun is less, you will have to adjust your settings to eat less power, or get used to the solar panel just extending battery life rather than making it never-ending. The exception to the above is the initial charge of the battery. When I installed my solar charger, I only had about a 38% charge on the battery. The solar charger added 20% per day until I was up to 100%... and then it seemingly did nothing for days until the battery slowly dipped down to 70%. Then it magically started up again into the cycle I describe above. Here again if you have limited sun access, you might not see this kind of clear result and it may look like the charger isn't doing anything. ... show more

  • Direct sun deteriorates solar cell surface and degrades performance after a year
Configuration: for Ring Video Doorbell 3, 3+, 4...
My doorbell is in direct sun half of the day. I keep snapshot capture and motion frequency at max and that uses extra power. It worked great the first 14 months returning the battery to 100% by the end of each day. After 14 months there was foggy discoloration or crazing of the surface of the cells due to sun damage. The battery recharge has become less efficient. Now at 8 weeks the battery recharges only to 40% and I replace the battery with a fully charged one just to be safe. It seems to help some but if it continues to degrade it may become worthless. I loved it the first 14 months. August 20,2025…Update … I am upgrading from 3 to 4 stars. Ring customer service contacted me and replaced the unit under warranty. The new unit is installed and the battery is charging to 100% at the end of each day. I really like this device but I have concerns the sun UV will damage this unit as well. I am going to apply some clear UV resistant film to the solar cells and try and slow the damage. I do not expect it to last forever but hope for 3-5 years. ... show more

  • Convenient Power Boost for Ring Doorbell
Configuration: for Ring Battery Doorbell
I installed the Ring Solar Charger on my battery-powered Ring Video Doorbell, and it's been a helpful addition. The installation was straightforward, and the charger integrates seamlessly with the doorbell. With about 3-4 hours of direct sunlight daily, I've noticed a significant extension in battery life, reducing the frequency of manual recharging. However, during overcast days or in shaded areas, the charging efficiency decreases, and the battery may still require occasional manual charging. Overall, it's a convenient accessory that lessens the maintenance of the doorbell's battery, especially in sunny conditions. ... show more

  • Pleasantly surprised by its performance given where it's installed.
Configuration: for Ring Video Doorbell 3, 3+, 4...
We have a west facing front door that sits under the roof in a deep front porch. The only time it gets direct sun light is from 3pm/4pm to about maybe 7pm, depending on the time of year. We live in a strict HOA and the remote solar charger option is out of the question. I have two batteries for this doorbell, a Ring battery and a non-ring battery. The doorbell settings are set to Normal/Medium so as to extend battery usage a little. The only traffic it sees is people visiting and us coming and going. The camera is set not to pick up on street/sidewalk traffic. Without this charger the Ring battery would last approximately 39-44 days (depending on usage) and the non-Ring battery would last 21-22 days. This was tracked over a period of about half a year. With the battery charger the Ring battery lasts 57-60 days and the non-Ring battery lasts 27-29 days. Kinda says something about how much better the Ring batteries actually are. In our situation I was sure it wouldn't have helped at all but I am pleasantly surprised it's able to actually charge the batteries. If the doorbell was able to receive a lot more sunlight I'm sure it would keep the batteries charged even longer. ... show more
