I got this so we could replace our garage spotlight that broke with the ring spotlight. I was skeptical when ordering, but was surprised at how high quality and robust the parts felt on arrival. Only gripe is one or two pieces of plastic feel a bit lightweight, but it shouldn't matter. You need to attach the mounting plate to the wall, then attach the camera mount to the wall, unlike a regular spotlight which directly attaches. The only issue I really had is they barely stripped any insulation off the leads so you'll want a wire stripper handy so you can make a firm connection to 12 gauge wires. Came with a nice little S hook and spot on the back of the camera for it to hook onto, so you can hang the camera on something while you're connecting the wires. Very convenient. Overall it worked great and is a vast improvement to running a USB C cable like the camera uses by default

My very experienced contractor commented on the scant instructions and very tiny print. Otherwise, it does the job like it should. Battery power doesn’t last in Minnesota’s winters, so hard wiring was a must.

I have a Ring Spotlight Cam Pro for about the last month. It's hardwired into the wall. It was working fine until yesterday, when it just suddenly stopped working. It said it was offline, so I tried to reconnect to my wifi. Pushing the button at the top didn't do anything, and it seemed like it was just dead. So I took it off the wall and put in a battery. It worked fine. Then I took the battery out and used an old plug that I had to connect to the Ring. That also worked fine, and I was on the network with both these attempts. Then I took it back up to the wall and connected the USB-C plug into the back. Absolutely nothing, and wasn't responsive to the button on the top. Later on, it briefly reconnected to power and then went out again. I called Customer Support and they seemed to know that there's a problem with these hardwired kits. Now I'm supposed to wait 24-48 hours for someone else from Ring to get in touch with me. The person I spoke with today said it could be a firmware issue with the Ring that's not letting it draw power from the hardwire kit. I figure there's only 3 possibilities here: (1) Problem with the power coming out of the wall (but it was installed by an electrician and worked fine until yesterday), (2) Problem with the Ring itself (but it doesn't have that problem when used with a battery or a plug), or (3) Problem with the USB-C plug from the hardwire kit. When Ring saw this review, someone got in touch with me to troubleshoot. They were kind enough to send me out another handwire kit for free. It turned out that the electric coming out of the wall was still fine, as was the Ring device itself. So once another hardwire kit was put in, everything was back up and running. Was very impressed with Ring's customer service, though still am concerned about my hardwire kit going out again.

Works Now. I double checked the wiring on the device. The wires from the unit to the junction box had come loose. I have solid copper wiring and the unit has cheap aluminum stranded wiring. The included wire nut did not sufficiently hold the wires together. I ended up stripping more of the black wire from the unit so I had more to work with as well as using electrical tape to keep the wires close and re-secured the wire nut onto the "twisted" wires. It isn't easy to successfully twist together stranded and solid wires. It is working well now, but I still wish they had a hardwired version instead of requiring a separate unit. Customer Support: In order to get help you have to call the technical support number. Contacting Help via chat leads to wasted time and the rep referring you to Tech Support. Not only am I way too busy to call someone, it's loud in my house and I prefer to use Chat to resolve issues. Once I posted this review, Ring got in touch with me via email, eager to resolve the issue and set up a time for them to CALL me. However, as I mentioned above, I had resolved it by then. Original Review * Doesn't work at all. Now my Spotlight Cam needs the battery changed every day. I wish they just made a hardwired version like with the floodlight Cam. Hard to install AND it doesn't work!
