1 HP Low Speed Bench Grinder 80-808 is a larger size motor and will tackle the tough grinding jobs that are typical in production shops, as well as the finesse shaping and sharpening of hand tools. Tool rests on this machine are extra-large and flat, without a drill bit sharpening groove. Wheel flanges are cast metal. Grinder includes dual dust collection ports on the rear of the wheel guards.

  • This IS the Grinder you've been looking for!
Love this tool. I replaced an old VIP 3/4 HP grinder that always stalled on me. This beast never slows down. It also goes slower and I find I have more control. The wheels that come with it are ok. After truing them up on the spindle they grind well enough that I'll use them up. Won't take long given my recent workload of projects. The light is sorta weak, but I have plenty of work lighting in my shop. As other reviewers said you can replace it with a better light. I also recommend as others do mounting it to a workbench. I used it for a few weeks without mounting. You can really push into it mounted and get better grinding. ... show more

  • Good grinder with some glitches
The package arrived with the flimsy styrofoam packing crushed. One rubber foot was rattling around in the box. It's permanently mounted, so I didn't need the feet, but they hold the base plate on. The screws had to be shortened (including one bent one from the detached foot) to reattach the base plate. The vacuum ports interfered with my Wolverine grinding jig bases and had to be removed. Otherwise, it seems quite serviceable. ... show more

  • Nice grinder heavy duty
The grinder arrived in great condition easy to assemble but there was excessive vibration in the wheels. I tried everything to calm this thing down and finally I removed the paper inside of the wheels and sanded smooth and it resolved the issue. Apparently the paper swelled up enough to keep the wheel from setting properly. I had dial indicators everywhere but removing the paper did the trick. I know it’s there for expansion but I’m only sharping small tools and I could put another paper spacer in and I will ... show more

  • Good Deal!
As mentioned before by others : Light not very bright & Tool rest is sub-par. My 1st order was dropped assuming by UPS and broke the base. 2nd order was also dropped and styrofoam was disintegrated and had some scratches, but still works and keeping it. UPS should be a shame for not taking more pride in their work for shipping these items ! ... show more

  • A beast!
Received the Rikon grinder earlier today, and this thing is a beast! I mulled over the purchase for several weeks, studied reviews on Amazon and other sites, before pulling the trigger. In reading the reviews, there were consistencies in the negatives. However, the negatives were more for the light (poor) and the wheels (average to below average). Yes, Rikon would be better omitting those features, but even with those items, this thing is still remains very positive. This is a very heavy, 1HP grinder! After unpacking, I was curious to start it up and I did so, without fastening to my workbench. It ran extremely smooth and when fastened to my bench, it will only be better. As for the wheels, I already have a CBN wheel and machined washers, to replace one of the stock wheels. The other will be replaced with a Norton 3X in a few weeks. The tool rests are OK, however, I already have a Oneway Tool Rest System, and that will be put into place tomorrow. With the new tool rest and the new CBN wheel mounted (180 grit, for chisels and plane blades), I should be well taken care of. If I see any quibbles with the machine, I will definitely edit this post, but as it stands, color me very pleased. By the way, I am a 67 year old goomer. I spent the first 20 years of my life as a professional carpenter, and the next 30 years as an advanced hobbyist furniture maker. I've been around both woodworking and metalworking machinery for 50 years. Yes, I would have preferred a "made in the US" machine, but I would have paid 4 or 5 times the price of this one. Would I have gotten 4 or 5 times the value? I doubt it. ... show more

  • MODIFICATIONS FOR A BUFFER/POLISHER/WIRE WHEEL STATION....
Got it, ripped the covers off of it, and use it on a 1-3/4" block of wood to use a 10" narrow wire wheel, and a 6" 3M deburring wheel. Here is what I see after a month of heavy use... 1 HP motor will not bog down, now even with a 10" wheel and tons of pressure grinding away at rust. I lay into it. And it outperforms a 3/4 HP handily. Well built! The 5/8" Arbors are heafy. Also, they come with cast iron arbor spacers and heavy nuts. Pro tip.. buy some 5/8 ID washers to make the most out of distance from the frame. The light sucks. Does not put out enough light. Only negative I could find. Do yourself a favor and 1) rip off the bottom cover and the crap rubber feet, 2) remount the capacitor to the frame with a drilled hole and a self tapping screw, 3) drill holes downward through the frame, and 4) DRYWALL SCREW THAT PUPPY DOWN! These are too powerful to be vibrating around on rubber feet. Screw it in! Overall, very happy. Lots of power for under a few hundred dollars. Sell the stones on ebay for $15 and sell the covers for $30 and you have a winderful polisher / wire wheel rust cleaner. Good luck! ... show more

  • Sweet, what a nice grinder
I've been waiting a long time for a grinder like this and there's so many choices to choose from and it wasn't sure I made the right choice but when I got it I quickly realized that I did make the right choice... What an excellent grinder... CBN Wheels here we come.
