  • Ready to use out of the box

It comes preloaded with games and setup is very straight forward. There are options for customization within the OS, but also, you can add a custom OS if you prefer. It can run a lot of the old consoles and some N64, but if you're looking for stable N64 I wouldn't pick this handheld for it. This is mostly for 2D retro gaming up to the PS1. It runs FF7, FF8 and FF9 and a friend of mine who got his at the same time as I did plays other PS1 games without issues. Couldn't recommend this enough, it's a lot of fun. ... show more

  • So much fun!
Style: RG35XX H-Transparent Purple
This thing has so many games! It has games from psp to ds, and such a variety! Games I recognized included Castlevania, Pokemon, Tekken, Animal Crossing and Spiderman. The console itself is about the size of a phone. It fits in a purse very well, so now it's my purse console. The buttons all react well and it's easy to reach the actual buttons. The d pads are very awkward to use, but are also unnecessary for most functions, I've successfully avoided using them so far. The first console I got had an issue with the battery- it wouldn't charge. The exchange process was super easy and the new console I was sent doesn't have any issues. The battery life is pretty good, but it will run out if you don't power it off when you're not playing. Great little console with some great games from hard to get consoles. The sheer number is impressive, as are the quality of games that it has. It's small but mighty and I'm excited to play more. ... show more

  • It broke down after two months.
Style: RG35XX H-Transparent White
I liked it, until it worked. Even if it was too expensive and kind of slow. Newer games are lagging (like Gta Vice City). But, like I said, it was pretty good until it broke down yesterday. Exactly one day after a month since it arrived. Well calculated.

  • Absolutely amazing

Love this little device. I have a couple of things that I will share that has made the experience better for me but they are in no way necessary. I bought a better SD card and I am running Batocera v40. That is something I did for me and again is not necessary. I will say that my nephew and two of my girls have the vertical anbernic devices but they all like this one better because if the layout and the addition of analog sticks. ... show more

  • It’s cool I’ll give them that
Style: RG35XX H-Transparent Purple
It’s got a lot of older games on it. Honestly it was fun to replay the original Pokemon games on it but the battery is terrible. It’s a nice small pocket sized handheld system it would be good for people who want their kids to experience older games the way the older video gamers did. I wouldn’t buy it a second time to be honest my boyfriend bought it for himself and we used it a handful of times. It’s neat when it’s brand new but I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who isn’t very serious about playing those games. ... show more

  • Great little retro handheld, included screen protector is trash
Style: RG35XX H-Transparent Purple
I’ve been after a retro handheld for a while. I wanted something small, with two joysticks, and capable of up to N64 emulation. I decided to try the purple Anbernic RG35XX H. I’ve read about Anbernic handhelds before and always wanted to try one. Overall, I’m pleased with this handheld. Its build quality is solid, offers USB C charging, micro HDMI output, and two microSD card readers (one for the OS and games, the other just for games). The first thing you do with any Anbernic handheld is clone the SD card it comes with, then throw it away. Anemic uses cheap SD cards. Spend an additional $15 and get a name-brand microSD card. You’ll need PC software to properly clone it. Anbernic includes their own Linux-based OS and 3rd parties currently don’t support this console, yet. Their OS is fine, albeit clunky. They also include RetroArch, but it runs on top of their Linux OS. There are also a couple of other dedicated emulators all running on top of Anbernic’s OS. Luckily, Ambernic offers a section for you to select all consoles and their games, then their OS launches the appropriate emulator. It works better than I expected, though I would prefer to load a 3rd party OS. They tend to take better advantage of the hardware, don’t have so much overhead, and flashier interfaces. The console includes a bunch of ROMS. They’re fine, I haven’t experienced a corrupted one. Game libraries are fairly thorough. I’ve played a few Genesis (Mega Drive) games, NES, N64, SNES, and even PSP. God of War PSP did chug at some times dropping down to 15-ish FPS. Not bad, yet could be better. Spending about $20-$30 more on a higher end Anbernic would get you more solid PSP performance. Still not bad for the price and the game played more at 25-30fps for most parts. Battery life is sori d 6-8 hours when playing NES and SNES-era games, it drops to 4 hours for N64 and PSP games. The screen is just large enough to see details and emulators appropriately upscale and de-line old titles to fit the resolution. It’s not 1:1 mapping, but I haven’t noticed anything wonky. The screen gets bright and the colors are fine, especially for the price. They’re a little muted, but that’s ok. There are some quirks with Anbernic’s OS. I’d like to configure the controller for Genesis games so it acts like a 6 button controller instead of 4, but I can’t. I also would have prefers a traditional layout instead of them sticking to the Nintendo one. The onboard speakers are serviceable and the headphone port works without an audible hiss. There’s onboard WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2, but I haven’t used either and prefer to manage games manually using a PC. The included screen protector is trash, almost as bad as the SD card. It doesn’t fit the screen to the edges and floats in the middle. There are bezels around the display and the protector sits right up against those. There’s also only one so, if you mess up, that’s it. I had a piece of dust under mine and they didn’t include the stickers to remove it. There’s also a bubble that isn’t coming out. I’m going to just take the screen protector off. Overall, I’m pleased with this. It has some setbacks, like no 3rd party OS support and the screen protector is hot garbage, also Ambernic’s usual trash SD card. But their OS is fine and it’s easy enough to use a new SD card. I can recommend this if you’re after an inexpensive yet high performing retro handheld. ... show more

  • My husband loves it
Style: RG35XX H-Transparent White
My husband wanted this extremely bad so I got it for him finally and he plays it quite a bit. He says there’s awesome games on it and it’s nostalgic. He’s 37 and plays with it with our 8 and 10 year old so it’s for all ages !
