I have used one kind of pomade for years, and I decided to spend 50-100 looking for better pamade's. I noticed that everybody has different hair types and needs different "Hold", and different "shine" levels. So here is my list of HOW different pomades worked for me. This is to be used for you to buy what you need. they are ranked in different aspects. then, I'll tell you my routine... American Crew Pomade (water based) Putting it in: fair Shine: Mid Hold: Mid Dry Crunchiness: None Smell: Slight Washable: Very Reuzel High Shine Blue: (water based) Putting it in: Fair Shine: Mid Hold: Very Strong Dry Crunchiness: Very Strong Smell: Slight Washable: With Shampoo "Best deal" Viking Revolution (water based) Putting it in: Fair Shine: Mid Hold: Concrete Dry Crunchiness: Very Smell:Slight Washable: Rough Heavy Hold Dapper Dan (oil based) Putting it in: Clay like Shine: High Hold: Medium Dry Crunchiness: Light Smell: Slight Washable: Needs shampoo Teddy Boy Slick (oil based) Putting it in: Easy Shine: Very Hold: Light Dry Crunchiness: a little Smell: Strong Mint for an hour Washable: Yes. After trial, error, and research the winners are: Teddy Boy Slick, Heavy Hold Dapper Dan, or both depending on the amount of "hold" i want that day. I have normal hair that is capital "S" wavy. I wanted a fairly strong shine without having a super hold 1970's helmet hair. Some people may be going more for hold than shine. For me the High hold water based products held like gel and pulled out lots of hair when applying and clumped the hair... ... So, now Im leaning on oil based pomades. My hair seems to suck in the oils anyways so I'm not walking around looking like a oil mop all day. Putting in Argon oil and leave in conditioner pre pomade also helps leave a nice radiant shine.

The media could not be loaded. I've been buying for 2 years now and noticed a few changes 1) price fluctuates considerably between $18-$37 for 12 oz. 2) on the 12 oz. Can, once you get to about 1 oz, bottom of can, when you work into your palms it gets very very waxy. It does not soften and leaves clumpy white pomade on your hair. Noticed with my last 2 cans. 3) My recent purchase is a 4 oz., You can see a difference in color and texture compared to the 12 oz. 4 oz. Is lighter brown, almost clear and not as firm. I'm hesitant to purchase another can, might go back to Bonafide. I do love the scent as it's almost odorles unlike Suavecito that smells like cheap cologne.

I love, Love, LOVE this pomade! I was first introduced to it under the red can from a barber but decided to try the blue. My hair is on the thick side and it stays pretty well all the live-long day. Refreshing is easy, just dampen your comb or hair just a tad and voila! I noticed that it doesn't feel as heavy, despite its thickness, when applying to dry hair in the morning. Yes it's thick, but doesn't tug at my hair like some of the others. I've tried Suavecito and Imperial which I like, but this has to be my favorite. Of course, because it's water-soluble too, to rinse out easily at night. The smell is pleasant, some people don't like it but it's never enough were people say they can smell it in my hair. In a pinch I've also used it on my moustache. Try it!

I rotate between the blue, pink and green Reuzel products depending on the length of my hair and the desired effect. The blue one is by far the best sheen of the three. For a gel pomade the hold is truly incredible - strong hold and absolutely no flaking at all - you really don't need to use too much for all day strength - I would say this will hold for lengths up to an inch and a half - as far as the scent goes, it is pale compared to the green and pink varieties, but scent is secondary to the style effects - the 12oz option is insanely economical, but way too big to take on the road - awesome product line overall

I’ve tried a number of strong-hold pomades over the last few years, and Reuzel Blue might be my new favorite. I started with Suavecito, then switched to Layrite, then Uppercut, Comandante, and Viking Revolution. I rotated between the first three for a while. My problems with the above pomades ranged from having a weak hold, drying out, sweating down my forehead, causing skin irritation or breakouts, and simply just being too expensive. My first impression after receiving Reuzel Blue was the large tin, which is similar to Uppercut, but slightly bigger and better in design. Like many, I noticed the strong fragrance after opening. While strong, I wouldn’t say it’s overpowering or unpleasant. I can smell it occasionally throughout the day when it’s applied. The feel of the pomade is definitely not as soft as some of the other pomades I’ve used. With that said, this stuff would be a little difficult to apply in dry hair. With a little bit of water or towel-dry hair, it’s easy to work with and the hold is solid. Reuzel Blue holds very well and washes out better than other water-bases pomades I’ve tried, which is great for me because I have thick, and somewhat curly hair and I apply pomade almost every day.
