I’ve been through more helmets than I’d like to admit—some cracked, some uncomfortable, some that looked like they were designed in the witness protection program. After three months of using the Retrospec Dakota for biking, skating, and a brief but humiliating attempt at scootering, I can confidently say this one is the real deal. First off, the fit is excellent. The adjustable strap actually adjusts (you’d be surprised how many helmets make that optional), and it doesn’t feel like my head is trapped in a plastic vice. The padding is comfortable enough that I’ve accidentally kept it on after a ride while walking into the grocery store. The ventilation works, too—I don’t feel like I’m steaming vegetables under there. Most importantly: it does its job. I’ve taken a couple of decent spills off my bike, and instead of a concussion, all I walked away with was bruised pride and some side-eye from pedestrians. For the price, this helmet is basically an affordable insurance policy for my brain, which is worth a lot more than what I paid. ... show more

I few months back after purchase I took a spill on my bike going about 20mph and this helmet definitely did its job in protecting my head. The impact caused some minor scuffing and scraping on the side of the helmet, but the integrity of the helmet remained fully intact. Despite the visible signs of the crash, I'm still very impressed with the quality and durability of this helmet. The outer shell is tough and the padding inside provided excellent shock absorption, preventing any injuries. I'm confident that if I had not been wearing this helmet, the outcome would have been much worse. The fit is also great - it's comfortable and secure without being overly tight. And for the reasonable price, you really can't beat the protection and performance of the Retrospec Dakota. While the surface damage is a bit unsightly, I'm still very satisfied with this helmet and plan to continue using it. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, high-quality helmet for biking, skateboarding, or other action sports. I have a big head and it was a little too small. Bit messing around with it, it seems like a quality helmet. Light and sturdy. And color is exactly like in the listing. Good front and back padding.
