Great radio. I’ve always loved the retro style but most radios were obviously cheaply made. This radio not only is heavy and well made but sounds great for the price.

I had low expectations for he sound, and mostly purchased this for appearance. The sound, however, is much worse than expected….very tinny with no bass and no control over tone.

    • I am objectively cooler because I own this. It might work for you as well.
So a while back I was kind of down. I knew that I was cool, but I didn't know if other people knew that I was cool. I mean, some things are pretty obvious, but some people are pretty block headed. So my concern at the time was that the two things might cancel each other out. Then I bought this radio and it not only affirmed that I have really good taste, but also that style and quality are fully compatible. When you think about it, you will see why I started to feel so much better about myself. But you don't need to think about it. I'll just tell you what you should conclude: I'm stylish and I'm awesome, like this radio that I bought. One negative point you should be aware of is that I don't have a purplish backlight behind my dial. But, and this is important, my radio does. Also, I don't have the ability to interface with electronic devices...but why would I want that--probably causes cancer or some such. And yet, my radio is cancer free and regularly plugs in to my phone, my computer, and my 1996 ipod (I was always an early adopter) I could tell you about the high quality sound, but would someone as discerning as I am buy a product that they hadn't researched? I mean really. I researched the hell out of my radio purchase, and this was highly recommended. Consider it more than highly recommended, because I am now recommending it to you. ... show more

1. I use bluetooth all the time for this thing. 2. I absolutely love this speaker. 3. The sound quality is beautiful. 4. I managed to trick my friends by playing 1940s and then I played retrowave, the look they gave was hysterical; completely surprised that it was a bluetooth speaker. 5. If you're planning on using the radio, it's a cool feature with the LED light. 6. It's an incredible add-on to wherever you wanna put this. ... show more

    • Sound quality not that good
It’s a cool looking radio no doubt and I loved the fact that it’s an FM tuner and a Bluetooth speaker. I would have preferred to have spent another $50 on better speakers. It’s fine for my usual classical music FM tuning but other than that, buy better speakers! Or plug them into this.

Visually, it's a very well made radio. The knobs and front décor are made of metal. The wood enclosure feels solid and I believe is made of a fiberboard, resin and something that gives the appearance of wood grain. The interior has some poor design choices. Primarily the fact that the enclosure is open with false speaker grills on the front and back. A speaker needs either a tuned enclosure or a sealed one but this design allows the rear wave open with the front wave of the speaker which is why is sounds "tinny" This can be fixed with some modifications as seen in second pic. I removed the side speakers and purchased a 2" x 5" speakers, 8 ohm, for the front, then hot glued in place. I then bought two 3" speakers bolted to the rear, facing back. I sealed up the side speaker grills so that the enclosure acts as a sealed box. The sound output is now much more full and rich. I also replaced the antenna wire with a monopole antenna and receive better signal. It's an upgrade worth of investment but it's a shame that Pyle didn't bother to spend the extra few bucks themselves because it's a beautiful unit. ... show more

    • Great radio with decent sound quality, but the bluetooth barely works
Looks very nice, lacquered wood (smells like it too) and design is not too crazy. I think the knobs are metal, not plastic. They have a nice, smooth, slightly heavy feel when turning, not like the common, cheap potentiometers most electronics uses. The volume knob has an extra "off" position it clicks into, which I find very convenient. The sound quality was good. I'm not an audiophile and don't mind some distortion (hey, it's "retro"). It was listenable. I had no issues with the FM radio signal, but then the signal is pretty good where I live. There's a long (about 2 feet) wire antenna that comes out the back, I have it curled up and hidden behind the radio, but I guess you could stretch this out and see if you have better luck with a weak signal. I notice the frequency seems a bit off. Stations I know, when found, show up about 0.5 Mhz below where they should be. This isn't a big issue because the gauge backlight switches between blue and pink as you switch stations so it's not hard to find a station. I do wish the light was something like amber or yellow for a more "retro" look, but I suppose that's subjective. The blue/pink isn't too bad. The Bluetooth didn't work at all for me. I had my computer 10 ft away, with line of sight. It kept losing the connection and the quality was awful, full of static and distortion. By the way, it tries to announce BT status by playing pre-recorded voice messages over the speaker. The recording sounds like it was done in China, and the speaker's accent is so thick that it took me a couple minutes to figure out what she was even saying. Anyways, this has ended up being a no-bluetooth radio for me, so I took off a star, but otherwise very happy with product. Works as expected (except for BT) and looks very nice. ... show more
