  • Nifty Little Mini Console
Color: Red 500
Before I get into the review itself, just a bit of a place to start - ANY review is always in some way going to be dependent on the expectations you have of the item and that's especially true here. You shouldn't pick this game console up if you're expecting a substitute for the latest and greatest gaming consoles on the market, BUT if you have the right expectations it IS a fun little toy, especially for those of us that grew up in the era dominated by the original NES. First off, the basics. There are indeed 500 games here, though some are close variants of each other. They're largely versions of mid-late 1980s games from the NES or arcades of the time and while a few are a bit odd, most are fairly faithful to the original versions. Note this means the upsides AND the downsides - the games play well and are smooth (including sound - more on the video in a moment), but there's no improvement to the original graphics and NO ability to save games (none of these games had that capability originally, as I recall as none of these were the battery powered carts that could). So you start fresh each time, which is fine for me (again, based on expectations). The device itself is very lightweight and does have a plasticy feel to it, but feels ok in the hand. Likewise, the controls feel plasticy, but are responsive enough for good gameplay. If the console is handled reasonably, it should last just fine as there are no moving parts, but not sure how it would do if subjected to the rigors a child might put on it (I plan on keeping it "adult use"). The screen is fine for these uses, but does have a limited contrast ratio and no adjustments I can find to brightness or contrst - it just is what it is - and it's not great with fast motion, but it's fine for these games. The console charges quickly on MicroUSB and seems to hold a charge pretty well / last a good while. The two player and TV features are interesting, but I'm not sure I'll use them much. The TV out feature uses a 3.5mm to composite (yellow/red/white RCA plugs) cable which does work but most TVs don't have inputs for those anymore, I had to find an older one in my house to test it. The second player controller also works fine, but since it's wired you end up with a rather tangle of cables if you use that and the TV out at the same time (which is probably the best way to use it since the screen is really small for two players to share). So again, interesting but not sure I'll use these features much. So all in all, you sort of get what you pay for here - a fun bit of nostalgia for those that grew up on old school games in the mid-late 80s into the early 90s. It works well for what it is but is somewhat limited overall (which is as expected at this price point) and is FAR more advanced than say a Gameboy of that period. So if that sounds good to you, give this one a try today! ... show more

  • 3 Inch Screen, Decent Selection
Color: Red 500
I have ordered a couple other handheld consoles like this in the past couple of months. This one actually has a 3 inch screen, unlike my last one (blue) version I ordered that stated 3.2" screen that turned out to be smaller than 2.5". This 500 in 1 handled has a better game selection over the 400 in 1 versions. This also has a micro usb charging port instead of the older mini USB. The charging cable is quite short, and the 2 player controller is a little subpar. However, in my opinion these little NES/Famicom handhelds are an inexpensive way to relive your childhood or to keep your youngster busy for a while on long car rides. My boys are 4, 6 & 7 years old, and all of them have found a few games that they can easily play. I do like that the games are numbered, as it makes it easy for my kids to remember what games they like to play. The battery life could be better, but these will work for a really long time if you use a battery bank which is what we do for trips. ... show more

  • Cute little handheld gaming system
Color: Red 500
This is a cute little handheld gaming system and works pretty well for an inexpensive toy. The game selection is a bit weird, as it's a mix of actual games classic games and mostly homebrew knockoffs or clones. It does have Contra, but I couldn't get the classic cheat code to work. It comes with a second controller for two player games, and can be hooked up to the AV input in a TV. Trying to play two player not hooked up to a TV would be a bit challenging with the small screen. It uses a rechargeable battery, which is also a bonus. Overall, not a bad toy to keep children occupied, but I'd recommend something a little nicer for an adult looking to play classic games. ... show more

  • Fun gift
Color: Red 500
This is a fun handheld for nostalgia purposes. The games are lo-res like the originals. The casing is light-weight plastic. The description says 500 games. There seem to be many versions of the same game so not really 500, but even so, there are MANY games to choose from. All that said, for someone who loved old games when they were new, and/or someone who wants to share them with the next generation, this is a great stocking stuffer. ... show more

  • Grandpa's Games
Color: Red 500
The first thing I found as I looked for instuction was an offer for "Unlimited access to over 1200 movies, 500 sport episodes, 3000 games, 50 music stations and 200,000 audiobooks, 3 days trial, and 39.95 USD, thereafter." That is 39.95 per month. That worried me - thankfully that ends up being separate from the device. The games that I did recognize on the device were from 1980-2000. They come with no instructions, so if the game is new to you, you are on your own. Tennis is there, Mario Bros is there. Sadly, Tetris is not. The packaging is cheap plastic and is smaller than the earlier home editions of similar game systems. Bottom line, I would be hard pressed to pass this on to my sons or grandsons. ... show more

  • I got like 5 of these
Color: Red 500
I love these things. Great gift for my kids. Great gift for your kids. Great boredom breaker for adults. The selection screen music could be better, but overall a great product. You may see duplicate reviews but as I said...I got like 5 of these.

  • Great Fun, Portable and Easy to Use!
Color: Red 500
This retro handheld game console is a blast! The 500 classic games provide hours of entertainment, and the 3.0” LCD screen is clear and bright. It’s super portable, and I love that it supports connecting to the TV for a bigger screen. The rechargeable battery lasts quite a while, but the controls feel a little small for extended play. Still, for the price, it’s a solid choice for retro gaming lovers. A strong 4 stars! ... show more

  • Fun
Color: Red 500
Got this as a gift for my son for Christmas. Of course I had to try it out first. So much fun, has many games from my childhood. Decent quality for the price and for something that doesn't need to connect to WiFi
