As you can see from my photos, I used up every bit of available space to open up my wall. I traced the outline of the plate onto a piece of cardboard and then drew a smaller outline about a centimeter smaller in all directions, then I cut it out and taped it to my wall to use as a template. I was removing a three handled ancient shower valve/handles and they were quite far apart. This template covered the gaping hole. I couldn’t go through the wall behind so I did all the work from the shower wall side. The tile was 50 years old and I didn’t want to track down tiles or retile the whole bathroom. This plate and others were my solution and I chose this plate for its size, as I measured how far the faucet handles were and this one would work for me. I accidentally removed one tile but it stuck back on fine, and you can see it in the photo. The Delta single handle shower trim I used had its own plate and that plate fit nicely on top of this plate. The plate is reasonably priced and I think it looks pretty good! But you can check my photo if you like. Installation in my case was tricky because I actually opened up the entire space behind the plate, whereas your application might only require that you just remove the old valve instead of three handles. Removing less wall means easier installation. This plate is made of metal and I found it to be quite sturdy. I am satisfied with it and it looks good in my ancient bathroom.     • BIG! Double-check your dimensions. Does this cover your tub spout?
If you have a ginormous hole to cover, this IS your solution! But make sure you have enough clearance between your mixing valve and tub spout. I found that my tub spout was previously plumbed too close to the mixing valve for this cover to fit. Overall, this cover is nicely finished. I ordered this for a job, went to install it, but somebody forgot to thread the clamp bracket so I had to thread it myself so I could finish the job. Otherwise product is good not cheap material and looks good. I used a Moen faucet.

Was great, has a heavy solid feel, looks great. Has all the work area of all and more than some. It does add 5/8” to wall so it was easier to extend my handle than to change rough in depth on Posi-temp valve that was roughed in back to back with hall Bath valve be sure you make appropriate accommodations. The brackets that go in the wall for support could be longer to go diagonal when my location was full of wood, but little creative engineering and it is great. ... show more
