This is a nice looking little remote control race car, but the asking price is definitely high for the cheap build quality and mediocre performance you get. The car is so lightweight that it cannot get any traction in even low cut grass, so you'll need a large driveway or parking lot to have any fun with this car. The remote control does have 3 speeds, with #1 being about 60% power, #2 about 90% and #3 100% (Not a huge leap from 2 to 3). It did control properly up to about 200 feet away which is not bad considering it has no extendable antenna in the controller. While operating on asphalt pavement, it can get up to a good speed and whip clean around when going from ahead to reverse and back, which is pretty cool. The controls are completely digital though, which means a press forward or reverse (of any amount) is a on/off operation... Same goes for steering, the wheel clicks the steering left/right 100% when rotated, no matter how much. Although the steering system does have a centering calibration switch which is nice. I'd say priced in the $20 range, this wouldn't be a bad deal for a fun racer for kids that you wouldn't mind getting smashed up.

My son spends hours and hours playing with this. He wants me to take him to a place where he can drive it. Such a great car for a 8 year old.

I was excited to get a fun toy for my nephew's 9th birthday last weekend - I grew up playing with a great RC dune buggy that my dad had built and was hoping that this car would be similar. Unfortunately, although the remote is similar, that's where the similarities end. This car goes pretty fast at its max speed, but there are no fine controls - it's all or nothing for the throttle and steering. It's impossible to do any amount of fine driving with this, which is what I expect from a cheap RC car. My nephew got bored of it pretty quickly since he couldn't control it well and there's only so much full throttle straight lines you can do before it's not fun anymore. I looked up how much my dad's build would cost today, it's almost $300, so I can see how this experience would be less enjoyable, but for the $40 price tag, I think other toys are a better choice.

It runs fast and works great on both carpet and outside ground. Battery last pretty good and charges quick. Strong body, survived few crashes already.
