Kids don't have to work, so why not let them bang on the drum all day? This colorful, 10-inch kid's floor-tom is a great solution. Its compact size makes it just right for classroom drum circles, and it can be played with hands, the included mallets, or drumsticks. The drum is made using ACOUSTICON shell material, for excellent projection capabilities and enhanced low-pitched fundamentals. Added benefits are strength, weather-resistance and reduced weight. The head uses the same material as Remo's FIBERSKYN 3 drumheads, for warm, full tones, with plenty of resonance and sustain. That may not concern your young player just yet, but nonetheless, they'll have a quality instrument for learning about rhythm, which is the foundation of all music making. Remo Kids Percussion The Remo Kid's Percussion Collection gives children exciting ways to make music and discover rhythm with their very own instruments. • Amazing!!!
Just received this drum today and my 22 month old son and I are obsessed with it! Such a loud and beautiful sound. A professional grade drum indeed. The design on the drum is stunning. This is definitely an heirloom quality toy for the kids. My son is a very high energy, "spirited" toddler and this drum fulfills his sensory need for banging, noise, and being able to sing along loudly. A definite winner. ... show more

  • A good (real) drum for a little one
My son is still pretty young (10 months) but at that curious age. I'm a musician and I have many hand drums and we had been playing with some of those previously, but I worry about what those might be made of (they were universally hand made but probably tanned with things that shouldn't go in a boy's mouth) so I went searching for drums made for children. This is more geared toward a classroom, but when you're hanging out with this dad every day is music class. He already has been trying to mimic me clapping my hands and dancing around and loves it when I sing and really enjoyed the drumming we did do (inspired in part by the Al Perkins book "Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb") he impressed me already by tapping out very musical and well phrased drum riffs on this thing. It comes with two mallets but for now we're using it as a hand drum. I'm quite impressed by the tone of this drum, I wouldn't hesitate to use it in a recording if I needed such a timbre. It's a real drum, but fairly light and colorful. I always supervise my son when we play with this drum at this young age (I didn't see a recommended age, and checking again on the amazon page I can't find one there) but even for a boy that's not quite a year old it's getting some use. I'm looking forward to getting plenty of use out of this in the next few years (will post back if it doesn't seem to hold up, but it's fairly well constructed). Kids love to bang on things, this is a nice thing to bang on. ... show more

  • Really great drum
I was looking for a drum that my 3 year old could use, as he really enjoys banging on things that aren't really meant for heavy hitting. The drum needed to be small and portable enough for that age/size range, and I wanted something that could ideally be played on the floor (like a bongo style). I also wanted a drum that included padded drum sticks, and ideally something that could be fun to look at too. This drum met and exceeded all those desires. It is very reasonably priced, has ping pong ball-sized padded stick heads, and is lightweight. It has jungle animals all around it, and really the most important thing: it's very solidly built. He (and I) can bang the heck out of the drum, and it takes a beating. The sound itself is great- not tinny or muted or "cheap" sounding. It's got good reverberation and overall sounds strong and punchy. I would really recommend this if you're looking for a well made, durable child's drum that will likely last for years and provide hours of fun! ... show more

  • Tougher than Chuck Norris. Seriously. Buy this drum for your kids!
Function: Great sounding little drum! Kids will love it. Parents will learn to love it. Durability: We purchased this drum 8 months ago for our son's birthday. In that 8 months, it's been thoroughly enjoyed by our three toddlers. It's also been re-purposed and abused... and not just a little bit. A lot of bit. This drum has proven to be indestructible. In addition to providing hours of percussive goodness, here are some of the many ways that our kids have used this drum: Drum, shopping cart, car (for transporting dolls, bears and younger brothers), chair, foot stool, bowling ball, shot put, a hat, battering ram, drawing pad, a "shoe" and a trampoline. Other fun side notes: Drum is capable of holding copious amounts of water or other liquids, sturdy enough for when your kids try to learn how to log roll and it can withstand falls/tosses from decent heights. Additionally, if and when the drumsticks go missing, rest assured that this drum can be played just as effectively with wooden/plastic kitchen utensils, "Melissa & Doug Stainless Steel Pots and Pans" and/or hair brushes. Having endured all of the above, the drum is still in excellent condition and still sounds great. Summary: This is the best $36ish you can spend on a drum for your kids. They'll get tons of enjoyment out it and based on it's durability, it should last for a good long time. Remo did a great job with this one... Seriously. Buy it for your kids already! You won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • A well made percussion instrument great for kids of all ages
A well made percussion instrument great for kids of all ages. We bought it for our two year old who loves music and we just leave it out so he can bang out a tune as he goes through the day. He loves it. Our nine month old picks up the sticks as well and hammers on the drum just like his older brother. It is a wood base with a natural skin top. The drum sticks are felt covered and the drum is a perfect size for toddler use and can easily accommodate an older child. It is fun for the parents too, as my husband likes to play along with the children. The colorful design is attractive and inviting, giving the drum a fun and toy like image, though the drum itself has a full and authentic sound. A great first time instrument for children. ... show more

  • Well Made. Good sound.
This drum is great for little drummers. The quality is great for the money, it is sturdy for heavy handed toddlers (even when they manage stand on it! Don’t recommend that though). The sound is loud and the sticks are great for littles. Having the soft mallets is also perfect for when they start to “drum” on other things too! This would make a great gift for any toddler musician or musical enthusiast. ... show more

  • LO’s favorite ‘toy’!
This is hands-down one of my 8-month-old’s favorite items to interact with throughout the day. He was a little slow to warm up to it, but we started watching the Remo Kids video tutorials (which are free and really high quality! I just fast forward through the Cocomelon like cartoon parts to the actual human tutorial) and he ‘got it’. He loves to sing as I beat the drum and now he is even practicing holding the mallet and beating it on the ground. I think it’s an excellent way to practice fine and gross motor skill, in addition to listening/aural skills. The possibilities are endless for exploring independently as well as with an adult or older kid. ... show more
