  • Amazing New Stuff!
This 3 disc set has the original album and also two discs of further listening from 2001-2004. So you'll get B sides and remixes as well as new songs never released. If you have the special/deluxe editions of the album's when they came out, keep them because not every remix or track is included in these new remasters. But you get lots of awesome never before heard demos. This album has great song writing. A lot of the tracks are very soft, pretty, and simple. This isn't hardcore dance, although some of the extra songs are. Elton John duets on a couple of songs including a new one that is more singing than instruments. The booklet has info on the album and each song. The Boys are so witty, sharp, intelligent, with a biting humor. Worth the read and album price. Has lots of photos from the time. Neil and Chris put put great music, and obviously their non album stuff is just as good. Some of my favorite songs of theirs are B sides or other rarities, like their highly danceable Christmas song found here. Sexy Northerner is also here and one of their best, as is Try It, I'm In Love With a Married Man. Remember, this time frame includes Disco 3 which had some bangers. In short, if Release isn't your favorite, still get this for the bonus songs and B sides. Jack and Jill Party will haunt you - it's so good! I enjoyed this album, I don't mind what they put put, I like a change of pace every once in awhile. These songs hold up and are better than they were in 2002. ... show more

  • Even though they seemed to leave some of the best tracks off the main album, at least they are all here in this package.
The main album is what it is, a collection of mostly melodic mid tempo tunes. A lot more guitar (Johnny Marr appears on half the songs) and a more organic sound than we are used to on a PSB album. It's almost what you would call a concept album, a "rock ballad" set of songs, but done by a synth group. It doesn't always succeed, but there are still some great songs (It's the Pet Shop Boys, they are incapable of making a bad album). The funny thing though, while they were deciding to put all these type of songs on the album, in the meantime they were doing all kind of interesting stuff that shows up in the "further listening" tracks. And that's where this set really shines. The included booklet (in the CD version) goes into the thought process behind the album and why certain songs were put in and others removed. Most of the stuff that was left off the album ended up as B sides later on, but a few of these songs are brand new to this set. The one I recommend that everyone check out is "Reunion", an absolutely gorgeous song recorded in 2003 with the Norwegian songwriting-production team Stargate that never should have stayed under wraps for 14 years. ... show more

  • The Disco Duo Continue Shoring Up The Parlaphone Years.
Really enjoying the extra tracks on this one, as I hadn't bought a lot of this album's associated singles, and the unreleased stuff is still more proof they have a pretty high standard even for what doesn't make it to the albums/b-sides. It has also been nice to see the color photo version of the cover, as I never really liked the original -which is inside the liner notes with a ton of other information. The remastering sounds good and the album as a whole sounds a bit more dynamic on certain tracks in a multiple speaker set up. Home and Dry still sounds like classic Pet Shop Boys. London as well. Wasn't sure about the acoustic direction at the time but the album has grown on me over the years. It may be a cash grab, but they do it so darn well. And this still isn't everything! ... show more

  • Released with More Muscle.
Admittedly at the time of this release back in 2001, I was not thrilled with this album. I felt like it was not finished, and it felt too brief for a PSB album. The album has grown on me since. And , wow! This 3 CD Further Listening package, provides a a wonderful remaster of the proper album which clearly proves that this album is one of PSB's finest moments. The Further Listening albums are a treasure trove of music genre excursions by PSB. ... show more

The hug amount of joy in being able to not only rediscover this wonderful CD, but being able to explore the unreleased tracks. Such tracks makes you more of a fan of Neil and Chris. Enjoy such previous unreleased songs like Kazak (Demo), A Powerful Friend (BBC Live Session),Alone Again, Naturally (feat. Elton John) and others. A must have ... show more

The remasters have been a wealth of limited material unavailable to those of us not plugged into the underground PSB black market. Ha!

  • Fantastic album; in my top 5 fave PSB discs
Fantastic album; in my top 5 fave PSB discs; subdued but uplifting; and this Further Listening edition is everything I hoped for. From the packaging (exactly like the Further releases from 2001) to the remaster. Exceeds expectations!
