Description

Movies matter—that is the message of Reel to Real, bell hooks' classic collection of essays on film. They matter on a personal level, providing us with unforgettable moments, even life-changing experiences, and they can confront us, too, with the most profound social issues of race, sex and class. Here bell hooks—one of America's most celebrated and thrilling cultural critics—talks back to films that have moved and provoked her, from Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction to the work of Spike Lee. Including also her conversations with master filmmakers such as Charles Burnett and Julie Dash, Reel to Real is a must-listen for anyone who believes that movies are worth arguing about. Read more

  • Great condition
Format: Paperback
Book came in awesome condition and on time! It was a little pricey but I was in an emergency situation. Nonetheless I appreciate the speed in which it was delivered. Good book as well

  • Extreme but provoking
Format: Paperback
Bell Hooks has some extreme ideas but provokes though and idea and puts one mind at different angles of looking at things.

  • A Must-Read
bell hooks is as critical and analytical as ever. Of all bell hooks' books that I've read, this is the best. The synopsis above says it all. Now all you have to do is read it. Filmmakers, pop culturalists, and people who think will be in pig-heaven

  • okay
The book is fine. I got it in a timely manner, but the essays are nothing new or insightful. Disappointed in the content of the book.

  • Pirated Book - Don't Buy!
Format: Paperback
The book that arrived is not the book on the cover. The entire inside of the book is a sonography for ob and gyn medicine workbook. Only the last few pages of the book are from what appears to be bell hooks' index. What a sham!
