Description

Nothing says Welcome Home like a murder. It’s official. Fortune Redding is out of the CIA and a newly minted resident of Sinful, Louisiana. She never expected her homecoming to be all apple pie and hugs, but a murder wasn’t on her list of things to deal with before she’d even gotten her name stenciled on her mailbox. Boone Carre-Hooch, to the locals - was a drunk and a louse and had shafted pretty much everyone he’d ever done business with. So when someone kills him, there is no shortage of suspects. Unfortunately, Ally is at the top of the list.Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie know that Ally isn’t capable of murdering anyone, but with an ambitious ADA looking to make a name for himself, and the local gossip train intent on finding someone to blame, they know they have to find the killer and clear Ally’s name. • Best Book Yet
Jana DeLeon has just the right mix of murder, mystery and hilarity. This book has it all! The plot is good, the characters vivid and the antics of Ida Belle, Gertie and Fourtune are too much! I have to feel a little sorry for Carter. I definitely recommend this series. This book has been my favorite thus far. ... show more

  • Rolling on the floor laughing
This series is the funniest I've read in years, but it has a serious mystery side too. The characters are great. I'm on book 12, and I don't want to stop!

  • Great series
I love this book series, and this installment is no exception. Laugh out loud humor, some mystery, crime, and also a splash of romance. I love reading these books. They’re enthralling from start to end, and are light hearted enough to read/listen (audiobook) during my daily commute.

  • Another great read
I'm on my third read through of this series because it's so fun and I will run out of titles for the reviews. Here are some of the reasons I love the series: Set in a tiny fictional Louisiana town Full of seriously quirky residents Town has some of the most absurd laws You can start with any of the books but I always start a series with the first book, then the story builds like the author wants it to. So go find Louisiana Longshot and enjoy the ride. Consider joining the Facebook group Jana DeLeon InstaGators! ... show more

  • Fun, funny, very consistent series
Miss Fortune books are a guilty pleasure. They won’t change the world, give you much insight into human nature, or make you a better person. But, not every book needs to do that. A balanced diet allows for some treats and so does balanced reading. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t. The Miss Fortune series as written by Jana DeLeon is fun and funny. You turn the pages, you laugh, you roll your eyes, and you are entertained. It is a treat like whatever your poison might be: a margarita, a doughnut, a piece of chocolate… Here and then gone. They don’t stick with me, but I’m always happy to see the next one. Don’t think that because these book are light that they are not well-written. Literature gets all the respect, but writing humor is tremendously difficult and it requires great craftsmanship. What is even more remarkable is that she has written 13 entertaining books in this series! We are not tired of them yet, because they do not read as tired retreads. The books are fast paced, the characters have much more dimension than you might expect, and the town of Sinful Louisiana remains sticky and quirky. These are books that my husband and I both read and enjoy for what they are. The mystery begins with the poisoning of a local underachiever during a fishing tournament. Fortune is out of the CIA and out of deep cover in Sinful. She is about to launch her career as a private investigator, but she and her cohorts are investigating in order to establish the innocence of their friends. It is best to read this series in order so that you will now the long list of continuing characters who pop up without much introduction. ... show more

  • Another Great Adventure fo Fortune
I so enjoy this series! This is the first book of Fortune’s life in Sinful now that she no longer is a CIA operative, so it is a way for the author to transition Fortune into her new life. While I enjoyed this book, it isn’t quite as good as some of the others. But that’s okay with me because we needed a “bridge” book. Now that Fortune has her PI license, Ms Deleon can move Fortune’s life forward so that she, Ida May and Gertie can continue solving crimes. I do agree that Gertie’s disasters need to be tempered with her also being more of an asset. After all, she also served with Ida May and Marge in Vietnam so she isn’t a complete screw-up. Hope we see more of Big and Little in the future. I also like the relationship Fortune has with Carter. She stands her ground with him all the while recognizing that he is a very capable law enforcement official. And I am SO grateful that we are not subjected to pages of female relationship insecurities and stupidity when dealing with a boyfriend who also happens to be law enforcement like so many of the current crop of “cozy” mysteries. So many of these new series claim to be the next Stephanie Plum, but none of them come close. This series does - and more! Please keep writing Miss Fortune books! ... show more
