Reddington makes and sells this reel and also sells just replacement Spools, so you can change out your lines without unmounting the entire reel. Somewhere in Amazon, there’s been a supply of Spools that have been entered into inventory in a place where there are supposed to be complete reels. Some purchasers have received the spool and then left a 1-star review of the product, when they’re really just upset with some Amazon warehouse making an inventory mistake. I ordered one and received a complete reel, loved it, ordered another in a different size, received only the spool. I executed a return, wrote an explanation of the problem and received a complete reel as a replacement. Hopefully the inventory issue is resolved. ... show more

I have had this reel for a year now and I feel like it's one of the best fly reels if you are looking for a great value. Fly reels are just line holders in my opinion, no need to spend a fortune unless you are a fanatic. So I ordered this thinking I would get an actual reel, turns out it is just a replacement spool. I even had Amazon send a replacement because I thought it was a one time error. Apparently this item is cheap for a reason... It is not the actual product! The spool itself looks very nice. Looks well made, the olive color matches the listing photo. Seems very lightweight. Nice little carrying bag. Will return, but annoying hassle going back and forth. Ended up buying from somewhere else. ... show more

    • Great Reel for the price, really good drag and very smooth.
I used it for my Steelhead fishing in size 7-8 weight, it works very well if not great. Drag is very good, very strong. Pulled couple of big fish with it and had no issues with the drag, it holds the fish in place well yet will allow for smooth drag and no broken lines. I am very impressed, pulled a nice Lake Brown I thought I was going to loose, and the reel did the job. It works, and it works really good. Can't go wrong on the price either, for the money it is a great reel. Now, I only have about 100' of Dacron for backing, and RIO Steelhead line and I am all about maxed-out with the reel capacity, so make sure you have just enough Dacron to keep your reel spinning with the line attached. If you going to use some switch lines, you will have to up-size to the next bigger reel to maintain capacity and be able to actually use the reel. Great for the money, and really good positive and smooth drag. Will buy it again. ... show more

I was always a little hesitant about purchasing Redington products after buying a rod made by them 25 years ago. It was not the best caster. I am very happy to see that Redington has made a great fly reel at a great price. This reel is very nice. I own 20 or so reels from various manufacturers. This one tops them all. Initial thoughts: this reel is a great value: tight, solid sealed drag, larger arbor. The only knock against it is the drag knob is plastic but for a sub $200 reel I’m OK with it. The photo shows the reel loaded up with 150 yards of 20 lb Cortland Micro backing and a Airflow WF6/7 Intermediate line. For comparison, this is a nicer real than my Piscifun Platte and on par with my (older) Galvin Rush. We’ll see how it responds in action. ... show more

    • Not the reel and in fact not even a spare spool but half of the reel with the spool missing.

Advertised as the reel but did not receive the reel and the box it comes in is also marked as spool not the reel as advertised and what the reel itself is sold for as I have porched this same reel for myself, and this was a gift for my sister. Returned with a description of the mistake and received the same thing. Just requited a refund and returned the incorrect item and am awaiting my money back. This is a great reel for sure and in fact what was sent to me was not an extra spool but part of the reel without the spool very confusing and frustrating. ... show more
