I generally like to stay away from books with super dark themes. I feel like I get enough of that in real life, given the state of the world, so I tend to opt toward lighter reads. When I saw this series, I was intrigued, but very wary, given the topic. Still, I gave it a try. By God, I was sucked in so fast. The characters are wonderfully fleshed out and the plot is relevant and fast-paced. Parts of it were emotionally tolling, but not to any degree that I felt unable to keep reading. I don't think i could've stopped if I tried, actually. I only ever buy books if I intend to read them again (saves space my tiny bookshelf), and this series is needed to own. If you're in a mental space to handle the darker aspects, then I highly recommend. ... show more

Good quality boxed set. The books are great. Still haven't gotten to the 3rd one but the 1st two books are real page turners. It's a little like a remake of the Hunger Games series with a male protagonist. There's not a bunch of salacious sexual content so you can focus on the story and the character arcs. I love this series. The tale of Darrow is a fun one for anyone who loves dystopian fiction, with a futuristic twist. I’ve actually purchased this series twice because I keep sharing them out and people love them too much to return the book. I would highly recommend.
