  • Perfect Transition from Screen to Page! Excellent Boxed Set
Format: Paperback
My nephew first discovered this series at his school library and became an instant fan of the movies. I noticed him constantly comparing the two, pointing out exactly where the book and the movie varied in the story. That gave me the perfect gift idea—this complete boxed set! What makes this set worth it: Great for Organization: The boxed set is a lifesaver. It keeps all the books neatly together so they aren't scattered across his room, and it looks impressive on his bookshelf. Deeper Storytelling: He absolutely loved it. Having the books at home allowed him to dive into the subplots and character details that the movies had to skip, fueling his interest even more. Encourages Critical Thinking: It’s been amazing to see him engage so deeply with the material. This set is perfect for any kid who enjoys "comparing and contrasting" their favorite stories. Final Verdict: This is a high-quality, "giftable" set that encourages reading through a child's existing love for the movies. It’s organized, durable, and was a total hit with my nephew! ... show more

  • Dark & Fantastic YA Adventure
Format: Paperback
The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collin’s has been on my TBR for years, and I’m so glad I finally got around to reading it. As good as the movies were, I think the books are better (anyone surprised? 😬) These books were entertaining, engaging, and exactly what you want in a YA fantasy adventure. The character development and world building are excellent, making the whole story surprisingly believable. I think the grittiness of the story, often not giving you the outcome or resolution you’re hoping for, as well as characters who have clear flaws, made everything feel very real. I was unsettled and anxious the whole time, but I share that as a compliment to the quality of the writing. I want to give a special nod to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I feel like prequel’s can be so hit-or-miss, and I approached this one with trepidation, but it was so interesting!! With Snow as the MC, you get this fascinating look into his “villain origin story” and how he could have taken a seemingly better path, with key moments where his thoughts/impulses were headed in a direction for good, but then the weight of his upbringing ultimately eclipses them. And the ending honesty was just wild, but was totally fitting for his character. While I think this is a great YA fantasy series, I would encourage parents to review trigger warnings, as there is a lot of violence directed toward and between children. That said, I did really enjoy this series and would recommend it! ... show more
