Not an audiophile but after 20 years of a stock system I just needed the bass back that I had in my 20s, in my newest vehicle. Ford Maverick doesn't offer ample space for the 12" box I wanted. This space saver seemed perfect. It was the perfect size, the wire kit was surprisingly nicer than I expected. It was a bit punchy at first, expected for it's size and construction, but with some tuning it sounded amazing for what it is. Spent a 1/2 hour listening and loving that night, then went out the next day to tidy up my work. Spent roughly another 1/2 hour listening before getting to work and before I could it died on my in the middle of playing. Checked all my work with a multimeter and all proper power is flowing, it just refuses to turn on. I see others have had problems with longevity and heat, but I didn't even get a chance for it to heat up. I'm older and care about my hearing so I wasn't pushing limits here either. I'm very disappointed because it was awesome for about an hour. I reached out to Recoil US, we'll see how it goes. Based on others reports, once this gets fixed/replaced I'll be buying an assurion warranty and 🤞. Update: The companies USA based support was available via phone and e-mail. They answered me and walked me through trouble shooting. They offered warranty replacement but advised to do an exchange within the 30 day return limit.     • Easy install
This product does well for what it is. It’s relatively easy to install and sound is decent. The fact that it’s self contained and amp is built in takes a lot of the wiring complications out of the install process. Since the quality and types of stereos vary, keep in mind that you will probably have to adjust the different screw type dials on the unit to increase the decibel output (initially I got no sound out of the unit and panicked). I installed this in my daughter’s Toyota celica and the seats were too low for the unit to fit under the seat. Because the car is so small, I first tried using the trunk/hatch area for its location, but it just didn’t have the punch that far back. I ended up replacing the provided speaker wire with good quality RCA wires and relocated the unit into the back seat floorboard area and the sound was very good. The only problem I had was that it sounded too good with the volume cranked up and I’m pretty sure I blew out the stock back seat speakers that I hadn’t replaced yet (I had already upgraded the door speakers). So I’ll have to upgrade the rear speakers soon, but so far my kid hasn’t complained because I don’t think she is cranking up the volume as loud as I did.     • Surprisingly good bass for a super compact 8" enclosure!

Looks like I'm the first reviewer on this product...the Recoil 8" amplified subwoofer. I have a Pioneer deck with after market speakers that run off the deck's power, so I was looking for a shallow and compact sized amplified subwoofer to fill in the low end in my van. I've had the Rockville one before in a previous van, so I wanted to try something different, and without breaking the bank. The circle shape of this subwoofer is what caught my eye, it's like 9" wide and 3" tall, super duper compact, but it's got some heft to it (weighs about 10lbs). Looks like a robot vacuum haha! The subwoofer went on sale on Amazon for $90 for I decided to give it a try, it arrived the next day with Prime. An amp wiring kit comes with it EXCEPT for RCA cables if you are going to install it via low-level input. Lucky for me, I had a spare set at home so I didn't have to buy another set of RCA. Installation was standard...red wire to battery, black to ground, blue to remote on the radio deck, and there is also a remote subwoofer volume controller *which I did not use. I chose to mount it under the front passenger seat. It's so compact in size that it's practically hidden from view. Subwoofer has Gain level, Bass Boost level, and adjustable crossover from 40Hz to 150Hz. The enclosure is held in place with metal brackets that you screw into the carpet floor and then you stick the included dual sided velcro on the enclosure and the brackets. Or in my case, I just stuck the velcro right onto the carpet and the sub's not going anywhere (no screwing needed). The sound is more than decent for a subwoofer of its size, remember it's only a 8" woofer. DISCLAIMER - if you're looking for window rattling bass, this isn't the one for you, perhaps look at 12s or 15s with more amp power. But if you just want some low end to round out the sound spectrum in your vehicle, then this subwoofer will do the job. I don't know about the quality of the internal amp components, but it is a class A/B amp and is rated at 120watts RMS. I am pleasantly surprised at the bass it can put out. The best part is the size and how discreetly you can place this in your car. For me, this was a good purchase for the price and value of product. ... show more
