First impressions out of the box. 1. The packaging leaves a lot to be desired. There was almost enough padding to keep the components from getting damaged. The boxes were all in bad shape and things were sliding around in the main box which beat things up pretty badly. The VFD and spindle were ok though. 2. LOTS of cosmoline. Be ready with a clean rag and lots of patience to get the spindle clean enough to handle. Until then the rust preventative goo make it like a Water Weenie to hold on to. 3. They're not kidding about the ground terminal. They say it's not required. But the VFD book says to connect it at both ends. I'd hate to have a 220V conversation between one leg shorted to the body and myself. I'll be figuring something out to ensure low RFI and, more importantly, safety of operation. If you're not competent with wiring things in 220V and want a SAFE solution, best to pass on this one. 3. The VFD is a Hyunyang HY02D223B. 4. The spindle cooling fan is just a piece of molded plastic and it wobbles pretty bad. I am not sure if it will be an issue or not. It doesn't contact anything during rotation, but we'll see of it causes vibration issues when I get this up and running. 5. There are no instructions apart from the VFD book. Not even a QR code for an online manual. I loathe online manuals, but that would at least be something. 6. The spindle mount is ok looking. My application won't need it, but it looks like cast aluminum, which can be good, or not good at all. They call it "pot metal" because it's only usually good for making cooking pots. If there's any vibration at all in operation (it's a milling spindle, so there will be) pot metal will fatigue and crack faster than your prom date left with another guy. If I needed this mount, I would most assuredly find one made of extrusion or billet. Final thoughts: I will not be buying from RATTMOTOR again. This spindle is on the verge of being almost ok. It's not something I think a person could just bolt on and run with.
