  • engine is responsive
when my cylinders would kick back in on my 2013 Tahoe, I would feel a slight shudder. That drove me crazy. Every time we went up and down a hill, they would shut off and then back on. This has completely fixed that. I'm thinking this fixed my oil consumption and fowling out my cylinder #1 as well. Although I'm not completely sure since I did change out the valve cover as well to the newer style. I think these are so tried and true that my mechanic at the dealer plugs it back in when he's done with a diagnostic. ... show more

  • This device works. My mileage actually improved a bit, someone at GM should explain that one to me.
This unit really works. My new 2018 Silverado 1500 ("e" model) was running well before I plugged it in the OBDII socket, but I wanted the option of disabling this V8-V4 mode because of what had happened to my friend's 2011 Sierra 1500 (excessive oil consumption between scheduled oil changes due to worn rings on an otherwise meticulously maintained truck. This was traced to a lack of proper lubrication in V4 mode, an issue supposedly fixed since in the newer models). I just couln't afford to take any chances at having to go through an engine disassembly so soon in my truck's life. I mean, how long have they been messing with V8s? They should have left these engines alone instead of messing with cylinders 1, 4, 6, and 7. Since I do mostly highway trips, my mileage has actually improved, not by much, but it shouldn't have if you believe the GM hype. You really have to wonder why all this V8-V4 complexity was added to a perfectly good V8 if as, in my case, my mileage improved!!! The ONLY thing I miss at times (easily fixed by shutting down the truck and just unplugging it from the OBDII socket) is some engine compression braking in hills from the V4 mode. It helped me maintain a set cruise speed going down some hills with a light 2000 pound trailer load, and the fact that the engine no longer shuts off at stops or red lights (the "e" model has the Lithium battery pack and induction motor to spool up the engine under these conditions but it won't do any of that while this particular unit is plugged in). Other than that, I have the V8 I expected now, the mileage is fine and hopefully I won't have issues with failing parts in cylinders 1,4,6 and 7. The added complexities of these otherwise old V8's should be a cause for concern. They use a special camshaft ground differently just for cylinders 1,4,6 and 7, they have a higher-volume oil pump, and a pressure relief valve to handle the incessant oil/computer controlled operations of the intake and exhaust valves in these 4 cylinders and this device just stops all this from happening without reprogramming anything. I could be wrong of course, but I think the pressure relief valve should have no issues handling the changes for the life of the engine. The rest is literally put to sleep while this device is plugged in. If you want to take your truck in for maintenance, say while it is still under warranty, just remove it before going into the stealer. They will never know. Hopefully I'll never have to go in for expensive repairs due to failures with cylinders 1,4,6 and 7. Make sure you get this device with the latest firmware as it is now totally stealthy to Onstar's big brother monthly reporting. Range Technology has done its homework. I don't work for them, I'm just a happy customer and would recommend this to anyone just wanting back the V8 truck they thought they bought. ... show more

  • Buy it. It changes your entire ride experience!
First off. I was skeptical about these devices and did a LOT of research on which one is the best and how they work vs a AFM DELETE. I have a 2017 gmc sierra 6.2 v8. When I first plugged it in, my truck screen glitched a bit on the infotainment center. I turned off the truck let it sit for a minute. And restarted. Not only does it start better. It rolls better when you let off the gas. The engine doesn't slow the truck down anymore when swapping to v4. Transmission shifts smoother since it's not swapping from v4 to v8. It made my engine quieter, stronger. Better throttle and smoother ride. I highly recommend! (Hint. If you don't drive your vehicle all the time. Unplug it after about 3 days of non driving. It will slowly drain battery a small amount. Says this in instructions too.) Best of luck! ... show more

  • It has done what it advertises and that is what I want
I can say that it does stop the engine from going down to 4 cylinders. My Suburban had to have the lifters replaced and I bought this product after the repair to try to prolong the engine further. The diagnostics do show that there are errors on some of the sensors such as the airbag system and emissions but once the module is removed, it goes back to showing no errors. ... show more

  • 3 4X4 for about 6 months and I totally hated it. That was until I found this little ...
Shame on GM for putting an 8 speed transmission into a 5.3 Chevy Silverado with AFM! I've owned a 2016 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 4X4 for about 6 months and I totally hated it. That was until I found this little gem. I was going to wait to get a programmer, but I didn't want to go to that extreme. I've made a few observations pre and post Range AFM disable. Before the symptoms I had were a lot of throttle lag, the transmission would jerk in and out of gear while in v4 mode and when switching to and from V8/V4 modes. There was a slight shutter on light to moderate acceleration. It was like the truck did not know whether or not to go into the next gear or in or out of v4 mode. I spend most of my time driving on 45 MPH roads and the drive-ability with the Chevy at these speeds was horrible. While the truck was in 8 speed driving around at 45 MPH and in traffic, the engine and drive train was always in a state of lag or being lugged down. There was virtually no throttle response. The only way the truck was drive-able was to nail the throttle to get the RPMs up and change into a lower gear. Can someone please tell me in the infinite wisdom on GM's part how that saves on gas???? Enter the Range AFM disable. Now I can drive around at 45 MPH and if I need to gas it, the truck will easily go into another lower gear and move. Mostly now I can drive around and in traffic and the truck stays in the 8th or 7th gear without any problems at all. There is one anomaly I have noticed, and this I think is the reason for some bad reviews, is that this did throw a check engine light already. What I figured out was, as soon as I let my wife drive the truck, she throws the thing in gear and hits the accelerator before the starter barely finishes turning over the engine. Every time I've gotten into the truck to drive it I've took my time and gave the Range plug enough time to initialize. I am totally sold on this device and it has made thew driveability of this Chevy 300% better with the AFM disabled. Gm should take some notes here and learn from their horrible mistake. This is causing them to loose sales. Consumers should not have to purchase devices to make a truck run better. They should make this a switchable option from the factory! ... show more
