RAM products are great. I use for all sorts of devices and mounts. Checking the RAM website, the Fire HD 8 with case should fit. However, the FIRE HD8 Kids does not fit. The case is too large for the end cups. I returned and bought a setup with the end cups for a 10 inch ipad pro that fits the FIRE HD 8 Kids case. Solid product. Tough plastics.     • Tricky assembly
This review is really ONLY about the assembly, which some people have found difficult. I did too... until I figured it out. Prior to screwing the brackets to the body: First locate which screw holes you'll be using by placing the bracket in position. Then place the bracket aside and screw the screws into the body in their proper places. Screw them all the way in and then all the way out. (I used a drill driver for this step) Now put the bracket in position and be sure to use a properly sized Phillips head screwdriver (not a drill driver, and preferably with a longish shank). Screw the screws in. Having already been in and out once, there is no chance of them going in at an odd angle and you should be able to screw them right in with no problem.     • Still pretty good RAM system, but a little Bulky and generic fitting.
I'm a fan of RAM products. However, this time around I saw a few things i wish were a little different. First is the assembly, I don't like having to strech, bend etc to be able to get a screw in place. Given the room available to the designer, i can see why they are where they are, so i will not give them too much grief. Second small complaint is what I saw as a bulky fitting. No too custom of a fit and that rattles my OCD lol I do like it and will keep it, but still do wish there was another more custom solution for an iPad mini with a case. ... show more

It works great for a tablet with a ruggedized case like an otterbox or similar. I use this for a custom tablet mount on my adventure motorcycle for larger screens for GPS over the smaller phone screen. It holds pretty tight and I added the rubber sling wrap around to ensure nothing moved. You can tell I modified how it mounts because I wanted two connection points to the bike to mitigate shaking when off road. It all turned out awesome. Thanks to GPS City for sending me all the parts fast and swapping out the first one with another that was the right size. I couldn't have asked for more. ... show more

    • Hard to beat RAM quality.
Got this for a vehicle mounted 8" tablet. Had to glue small spacers in the corners to get a perfect fit. Rock solid when moving over rough terrain or unimproved roads. Getting tab in and out is simple. Spring tension is just right. Very happy. Would buy again.

    • Awesome mount!
First off, for those that are having trouble assembling this, try using a #1 Phillips screwdriver. That's the correct size for the screws. Start by installing the 5 screws per side at about 1 to 1-1/2 turns. Then clip the end cap in and tighten the center screw first. This will keep it from moving around while you tighten the rest. Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver and not a drill!! This is another great product from RAM! The only downside I see with this particular mount is that it blocks my rear camera when the iPad mini is in place. They of course do offer other mounts that would fix that but I chose this one because RAM will sell new end caps to be able to use it with a full size iPad or iPad Air later if I choose to. ... show more

    • Great for Pilots and drivers
The assembly I felt could have been done at the factory or at the distributor. It was dumb how tiny the screws were I could see someone with limited dexterity or not perfect eyesight having problems with seeing how to assemble it. Asides from the assembly it is a solid product. I use it as a yoke mount in a aircraft and it has never failed me. Spring tension is just as strong as when I got it and it holds my iPad steady no matter the attitude or the acceleration of the aircraft. It will fit a iPad mini with a otter box. The iPad will not be fully seated in the unit with the otter box but between the spring tension and the plastic lip it stays in place. ... show more
