When it came, the edge was covered in a protective coating that had to be removed and it needed to be sharpened so I would advise to make sure that you have a good set of whetstones before getting this. Came slightly sharpened. Edge had several pits and had to work for a while with a sharpening stone to remove them. Blade is slightly warped (bought a straight edge, not curved). Handles attached easily. Requires frequent stops to resharpen.

I have a quality straight blade already. For small rails, the curved blade does a much nicer job. Be Aware, it will arrive very dull, with paint gobbed on it. I sanded the goopy paint off then spent an evening sharpening. Does not hold an edge like my quality one, but actually that’s okay because it doesn’t bite in too much on small rails. Make quick work of debarking. I had a half dozen aged lodgepoles to debark and it bit right in and cleaned them up fast.

Product seems solid at unboxing but would recommend some lock washers or perhaps some locking nuts since it will be under pressure pretty often and you may not always have the right tools to tighten it up while out clearing land. Although I do believe it’s the same size as your standard chainsaw wrench. Besides that the edge seems as if it may have been sharpened before painting the back side somehow (kinda joking but the paint is definitely part of the burr so it wasn’t ever honed. I used a 1000/3000 wet stone with just a few passes to see how it would take and edge for the pic and it’s definitely very easy to put an edge on but doesn’t seem like it will hold it very well so you should probably carry a puck style stone if you plan on doing much work with it. ... show more
