  • Excellent 5-Bay SATA Expansion for Raspberry Pi Projects
The Radxa Penta SATA HAT is a game-changer for anyone looking to build a compact NAS or storage server with a Raspberry Pi. The ability to connect up to five SATA drives is impressive, and the installation process is straightforward with clear documentation. The HAT feels well-built with solid construction quality, and the included cooling solution keeps everything running at reasonable temperatures even under load. Performance is reliable with good transfer speeds for a Pi-based solution. The included software support makes setup painless, and the power management works flawlessly across all five drive bays. If you’re building a home server, media center, or backup solution on a budget, this HAT delivers excellent value. It transforms the Raspberry Pi into a legitimate multi-drive storage platform. Highly recommended for hobbyists and home lab enthusiasts who want expandable, affordable storage without compromising on quality. ... show more

  • Works great
It does everything it advertises. I built a little piNas with it. Just make sure you actually connect everything correctly. I troubleshooted for an hour before I realized a cable wasn’t connected.

  • Works great and allows ZFS on Raspberry Pi5
Installed on Pi5 and setup ZFS on 2 x 4TB SSD and 1 x 2TB SSD. Instructions easy to follow plus multiple online videos for more detailed ZFS setup. Has been operating on my webserver for multiple months and no issues. For best results ensure you use quality SSDs from reputable manufactures.

  • Got a bad board
I bought one of the Penta SATA hats for my raspberry pi 5 and I followed the instructions but as soon as I plugged my 12v charger in nothing happened. I went ahead and removed the hat and tried to power on just the PI with a USBC charger and the pi turned on and booted. So I though maybe it was the 12v barrel charger. Put the hat back on and plugged another 12v barrel jack in and again nothing. I figured let me test the GPIO pins on the pi with my multimeter. After removing the hat my pi no longer boots. Solid red light. The hat seemed to have shorted out the pi. Charger tested a good 12v on the multimeter so no issue with the charger. Next I went to test the hat. Charger sparked when I plugged it in. Checking the voltage was jumping a bit from 0-100v and now it's reading 1.3v I definitely got a short with this board and it trashed my Pi5. ... show more

  • Works great!
Easy to install (follow the manufacturer's instructions) and works like a charm. I built a 4-bay NAS using a Pi 5, the Radxa Penta SATA hat and OpenMediaVault, all housed in a 3D printed 10" rack system called LabRax.

  • Good So Far...
Used it for a while to build a NAs with the RP 5. Worked great, but eventually something happend to the PI so I changed tactics. Not blaming the HAT.
