  • Beautiful oil!!!
Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)
The benefits of this oil far outweigh the "smell" people keep complaining about. I personally love the scent of NATURAL products from the Earth's bounty. It's a gift that we need to stop being so ungrateful for. This stuff works wonders and it gives my scalp a refreshing feeling, almost like a peppermint oil tingle but not. The scent is dominant but it fades to end up smelling more like a potent Jamaican Black Castor Oil with dark roasted coffee beans and a touch of tahini (sesame seed paste used to make hummus). This 16 ounce size is the best value for the money that I have found on Amazon, but since this ships from where I live I'm going to go find the shop and buy more to do my DIY's with. I'm in love with this oil and abandoned my chebe grease rotuine on my last wash day. This oil gives hair a silky texture that i simply can't describe. For me, my scalp and hair strands soak it right up overnight and there's just a slight oily feel in the morning when i remove my silk scarf. I use this like a hair grease and as a sealant after I shampoo and do my henna mask treatment. I DO NOT WASH THIS OUT! I don't know WHO those directions are for, but you don't need to wash this out. If you have straight, non kinky hair I can understand using it as a treatment then shampooing it out. But not for kinky hair unless you are deliberately using it as a pre-poo. But after you do that, still add it back to your scalp and hair and leave it in. I'm a BW with type 4 hair, high porosity and I'm anemic. I was already using natural things to help with hair fall and shedding, like fenugreek and rosemary water but this oil sealed the deal and I'm losing next to no hair now other than normal shedding. Concentrate this oil on your ends too, twist your hair and pin away your ends and just watch it flourish! Makes wash day a pleasure because it keeps tangles at bay too and when water hits your hair it feels so smooth and soft. It is really annoying to see so many people complain about the smell when you can very easily just melt it down and add an essential oil like lavender. But don't bash a beautiful product with such a rich history just because you're inexperienced with things that are from nature instead of manufactured with tons of artificial fragrances. This is NOT L'Oreal people! It's better! If yours came melted, just put it in the fridge it'll solidify again. Remember, it's been on a truck all day on it's way to you, you might melt in that kinda heat too! It's like coconut oil, solid when cool but liquid when warm. Complaining about that is just weird. Reading the reviews was a bit frustrating because people seem to want everything to smell like their chemically derived lotions and potions and perfumes. Well, this ain't for you then! Buy a different oil if you're can't respect the properties this one has. I love to touch my twists throughout the day and then sniff my hands to take in the aroma of the batana oil. Again, think dark roasted coffee, JBCO, tahini... That's what it smells like take it or leave it. But if you leave it, you'll never know what you're missing! Bought a second 16 ounce jar last night because it's on sale for Prime Day. Whole family will be using it on hair and body and i will be retwisting my son's locs with this and rosemary water. Will post more pictures in 6 months as I've only used this for 2 weeks but can already tell a difference in hair density. ... show more

  • 3 Years In: Raw, Demanding, and Worth It
Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars because after 3 years it still earns its place — not because it's flawless. After 3 years of real use, here's what nobody tells you about raw batana oil. I can confidently say this is one of the more legitimate natural hair products I’ve come across. That said, it’s also a product a lot of people misunderstand, mainly because it doesn’t behave like typical oils. Quick Take Very thick, raw, unrefined product Strong natural scent that is earthy and roasted Works best as a leave-in or sealant depending on your hair type A little goes a long way Not for people expecting a lightweight cosmetic oil Photo Breakdown Photo 1 shows the real texture of the product. It is thick, grainy, and almost paste-like. This is what raw batana oil actually looks like, not smooth or whipped like processed versions. Photo 2 shows how it sits in the hair. It adds weight, control, and a natural sheen without looking overly greasy when used properly. Photo 3 shows the jar in hand for scale and context. This jar lasts a long time because you do not need much per use. Texture and Quality This is not a typical oil. It is dense and heavy Slightly grainy Melts down with body heat Can feel heavy if overapplied If your product is smooth like lotion, it is likely not truly raw. This one clearly is. Scent The scent is strong and natural. It smells earthy, roasted, and slightly nutty, similar to coffee or sesame. This is not a fragrance product. It smells like a real, unprocessed ingredient. If the scent is too strong, you can use less or mix it with a light essential oil. How I Use It This is where most people get it wrong. There are two main ways to use it: As a leave-in or sealant Apply a small amount to damp or dry hair Focus on ends and dry areas Leave it in This works best for thicker, drier, or higher porosity hair. As a treatment Apply more generously Leave in for about 30 to 40 minutes Wash it out This works better for finer or straighter hair types that cannot handle buildup. Can You Overuse It Yes. Because it is heavy, using too much can make your hair feel greasy or weighed down. It can also lead to buildup if you never wash it out. Start with a small amount and adjust from there. How Often to Use Light use two to three times per week Heavier use once weekly as a treatment Adjust based on how your hair responds. Results From Real Use After consistent use, I noticed: Softer hair texture Less dryness Better moisture retention Reduced breakage and shedding This is not an instant results product. It improves over time with regular use. Why Instructions Say to Wash It Out This is mainly because it is a heavy oil and not all hair types tolerate buildup well. Washing helps prevent excess residue and scalp issues. That said, depending on your hair type, it can also be used as a leave-in. Value I paid around 65 dollars in 2023. A little goes a long way, and one jar lasts a while, so I think the price is fair for a raw product. Who This Is Not For People who want a lightweight oil People sensitive to strong natural smells People who want a simple, no-effort product Who This Is For People who prefer raw, natural products Dry, thick, or textured hair types Anyone looking for a heavy-duty moisture sealant Final Verdict This is one of those products where if you understand how to use it, it works extremely well. If you expect it to behave like a typical oil, you will probably not like it. It is raw, strong, and effective, but not beginner-friendly. Would I Buy It Again Yes. I would just make sure to use it properly from the start. ... show more

  • Not a oily butter
Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)
The butter is not oily or greasy, I use it on my body and my skin feels smooth. I would say it’s a good sealant for my strands but I need to try this product out for 6 months before I give a review concerning my scalp since I suffer with hair loss. The smell is a mixture of coffee and smoke and it doesn’t linger. Get a good amount of product for the cost and this should last me more than 6 months trial. I had to update the star ratings, I love the smell, burnt coffee caramel scent. I love the effects on the hair and body and my mom seeing results on her scalp, and I use it on my son's body. I use another genuine product but it's just 4 oz for almost the same price but if I am going to use it on my family I need a bigger container. This product to me seems genuine, it has the consistency color and natural earthy smell and its more affordable for 16oz. Avoid the Chinese brand and get yourself this. ... show more

  • So far so good
Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Four stars only because it’s only been a month and here is what I have noticed: My curl pattern is back-curls are springy and super soft I don’t use as much product and my curls are a lot less frizzy Not sure about growth yet but my hair “feels” less thin, maybe cause it’s more moisturized Yes, it has a strong smell of coffee but it’s not horrible and it fades after about an hour. I use it like a leave in conditioner, put about a half teaspoon in my palm and put it on my edges and scalp. Whatever is left I jus put in my hair, stays in all day and wash and repeat the next day. ... show more
