I did not see any tarnishing. They are not plastic and are a metal material. I did try and put it on my head to see how it would look and I think with Bobby pins it could work fine. I used the crown as a cake topper for my daughter’s birthday. It’s was perfect. It’s good some what heavy metal. Two rhinestones fell off, but I was able to glue them back on without any problem. The sparkle was great. The iridescent diamonds made my day and reflected beautifully off the cake. I don’t think you can wear it due to size and no way to Secure it. The crown arrived with several of the jewel pieces fallen off. Luckily they were inside the plastic shipping bag and I was able to glue them back in place. Definitely cheaply made, but has a nice weight to it and four points to attach it to the head with hair pins. It arrived in a plastic shipping envelope, which is a poor choice on Amazon's side.
