  • Solid Unit, drive belt size mystery although Solid Unit, drive belt size mystery although
Just got this drill press put together recently, so this is a “first impression” review. It comes well packed in fitted styrofoam inserts in a decent box, no shipping damage noted. It’s about 37 pounds in the box shipping weight. There’s liberal use of oil on the surfaces which would be prone to rust, and wrapped in plastic bags, so no rust seen at all. Assembly is straight forward, everything fits together as it should. The one area I had a lot of trouble with is the drive belt. How the factory got the belt on is beyond me, as I could not get the belt over the stepped pulleys no matter what order, and what I did to move motor on its mounts. I measured the distance around the top pulleys, with the motor in the most extreme inwards position I got 26-3/4 inches, there’s no way I could get the supplied K26 inch belt back in place. The belt measured 26 inches. I ended up getting some longer belts (K27, K28 readily avail on Amazon) the K27 belt is just right. No fighting at all to get it over the stepped pulleys, and the motor ends up in mid position with modest belt tension. K28 belt too long. The included manual calls for a 26 inch belt. In operation, the drill press is very sensitive to belt tension resulting in vibration. I found that a bit looser than I would like resulted in minimal vibration. The original belt, and the replacements all seem to have quality issues, they are not consistent in outside width all around, which isn’t helping with the vibration vs. tension issue.I haven’t checked for runout yet at the chuck, although I can see there might be some. I was very careful in cleaning up the tapers on the spindle and chuck before assembly. Overall, for the price point this is a decent drill press, I got this smaller one as my floor standing much larger unit is way overkill for small work. Cannot leave a five stars due to mystery with belt. ... show more

  • Does the job.
I work as a fabricator in my day job but I'm still learning about 'machining' metal. This is decently made -but far from perfect. I'm a little frustrated by the platform not lining up with the chuck exactly, BUT the machine handles abuse pretty well for what I use it for (mild steel, generally up to 1/4"). Which, at this price point is why I bought it. Easy to assemble with a couple of wrenches and a soft mallet. Performance: I ran a 3/4" bit through 1/2" mild steel plate to "max it out" and... it actually made it through at 620 RPM with a little patience and a lot of cutting oil. It will stall on oversized bits, but a 3/8" bit through 1/4" plate? Easy easy. Good-enough machine for what it is. But don't expect the moon for its price. I plan on running it until it won't work anymore. However, I think in the future will def get a bigger industrial-friendly unit for what I'm doing. I give it four stars because its probably better than some of the name-brand stuff at a higher price point. ... show more

  • Solid Entry-Level Drill Press — Smooth Operation and Easy Setup Solid Entry-Level Drill Press — Smooth Operation and Easy Setup
Once you have a good set of hand tools, a drill press is one of the most useful upgrades for a workshop. Drilling straight, accurate holes—especially at consistent angles—is difficult with a hand drill, and while guides and adapters exist, they often fall short. A drill press like this makes those tasks much easier and more precise. This is a very nice basic drill press and a great place to start. The assembly was extremely simple, and the overall fit and finish are quite good. It has a clean, solid look, and the cast iron components give it a reassuring level of stability without making it overly heavy. In use, the press runs smoothly with minimal vibration, which is important for accuracy. It’s clearly designed as a benchtop unit for lighter-duty work. The throat depth allows drilling roughly 4 inches from the column, and the spindle travel supports holes up to about 2 inches deep. That’s more than adequate for most DIY and hobbyist applications. The motor provides enough power for typical tasks, and speed changes are handled in the standard way—by adjusting the belt across pulleys under the top cover. It’s a straightforward system that works well, even if it requires a quick manual adjustment. One thing I like is that it strikes a nice balance in weight: heavy enough to stay stable during use, but still manageable to move and store when needed. I plan to keep mine under the bench and bring it out as needed, which suits this size and design well. Overall, this is a well-made, entry-level drill press that performs reliably and is easy to set up and use. It’s a great option for anyone looking to add accuracy and capability to a home workshop without stepping up to a larger, more expensive machine. ... show more

  • Great quality Great 8" drill press
I bought this 8-inch drill press for some woodworking projects, and I absolutely love it. The fact that it comes with a vise right out of the box is fantastic—it saved me the hassle and extra cash of buying one separately. The vise grips the wood securely with zero slipping. It gives me the peace of mind to just focus completely on drilling precise holes instead of wrestling with the material. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Pleasantly surprised!
I originally bought this 8" drill press strictly for some weekend woodworking projects, but man, was I surprised! It turns out it handles metal drilling just as flawlessly. The moment I unpacked it, the heavy-duty cast-iron head really stood out—it feels incredibly beefy and well-built. Because of that extra weight, the machine is rock solid during operation. There is absolutely no wobble or vibration, letting me focus entirely on my work. Honestly, it's an unbeatable value for the price. Highly recommend! ... show more
