Description

Everyone's favorite leche-loving, swashbuckling, fear-defying feline, Puss in Boots, returns in a new adventure from the Shrek universe as the daring outlaw discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star on his grandest quest yet. With only one life left, Puss will have to humble himself and ask for help from his former partner and nemesis: Kitty Softpaws. They are joined in their journey by a chatty and cheerful mutt named Perro. Together, our trio of heroes will need to stay one step ahead of the fairy tale realm's craftiest crooks including Goldilocks and the Three Bears. • A very welcoming surprise of a gem!
As a fan of the first two Shrek films, it's been frustrating to see the sequels and the one spin-off being unable to live up to the greatness of those two movies. For the longest time, I thought it was the Terminator or Alien case, where the first two movies are great, and the rest are trash. Even when I saw the trailer for The Last Wish, I wasn't impressed and thought it would at best be a decent film but one that wasn't worth watching on the big screen. But, oh boy, was I so wrong! Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is not just a good film, it's a true worthy follow-up to the first two movies. In fact, you could easily watch the first two and just skip to this film without needing to know what happens in the other three films that came between Shrek 2 and Last Wish (in terms of release). This one has heart and a very appealing story. I won't bother you with the premise, that's what Amazon's description is for. So, let's dive straight into what makes this movie great. First off, Puss is a far more interesting character in this movie. I still love him in Shrek 2 and how we are introduced to him. But this movie dives far more deeper into his character and shows us his vulnerability. His attempt to reclaim his 9 nines really shows us the side of him he wishes to keep hidden. And his confrontation with a new villain (a wolf) really brings out his fears and insecurities for the very first time. It's some interesting stuff to see, while still not emasculating Puss in the process. He's still a great character with three-dimensional aspects of him. The animation is noticeably different but in a good way. It looks great and has an anime vibe, especially with the fight sequences. You can tell that there are different styles going on, but they never overshadow or feel out of place. The music as well is decent. But what makes this movie shine is in its characters. Only Puss and Softpaws are back, played by their original voiceactors. But we get new additions like The Wolf, Goldilocks and the Three Bears of Crime, Big Jack Horner, and my personal favorite character of this movie, Perrito. Perrito is my favorite because he's just a likable character and so simple. His cheery and naiveness attitude is what makes this him stand out among the more serious characters. Although, he does have a rather dark and disturbing backstory that is kinda hilarious in how he tells it. I won't spoil it here, but you should definitely watch the movie to know what I'm talking about. There is also a bit of subtly with his character as well. There are times when I'm curious if he's not entirely aware of the harsh reality surrounding him or if he bottles it all inside to keep himself from falling apart. Perrito also serves as the comedic relief of the film, without compromising the serious moments. The rest of the characters serve a purpose and have their own arcs as well. Goldilocks' isn't very deep but it's emotional and makes the character interesting enough beyond the stereotype of being a villain. Big Jack Horner is interesting as well, although he's really just there to be an obstacle. It's not really a flaw because he still serves a purpose and acts as the opposite side of Goldilocks and Puss. But the one character that surprised me the most was the introduction of The Wolf. A somewhat major villain of the story, although he's more of an obstacle for Puss to fight against. I won't spoil it here, but DreamWorks did a great job in making The Wolf a far more terrifying villain who isn't there just to be a big bad guy for Puss to fight against. He fits in with Puss' story-arc and DreamWorks somehow managed to make one of the best animated villains I've seen in a long time. This 2nd spin-off film of Puss In Boots has no right to be as good as it is, yet I'm happy that it is. Sometimes life just throws you a bone in the most unlikely of places, and The Last Wish is one of them. The story is great, the characters are great, the animation is great, and the film itself is just a great time to watch, especially with family. I give this film an 8/10 and a worth owning on Bluray/DVD rating. ... show more

  • Best CG Dreamworks Film
I grew up with Dreamworks animated movies. Prince of Egypt, El Dorado, Sinbad, back when Dreamworks was holding its own against Disney with their animated films. Once they moved into CG animation, that amazing art style and imagination was a bit lost. Shrek was a triumph in its realism, but the movies following have constantly disappointed and paled in comparison to anything Dreamworks once made. Trolls has revived a once-tired franchise, and I appreciate the textures of those films, they're entertaining enough. But Puss in Boots: The Last Wish actually restored a bit of that faith. It brought back a bit of that feeling of sitting down to watch a Dreamworks film and feeling excited. An extremely artistic, colorful, and stylized film with an equally entertaining and engaging story. I absolutely adore this film and had to have it the minute it came out on Bluray. It proved to me that there are still those within Dreamworks animation that are trying hard to make something different and new. ... show more

  • A gem from DreamWorks' crown.
One of its best job don't deserve less than quality excellence at image and sound and this edition do the job. Perfectly accurate and definitely one thing that I'll keep for ever.

  • Great story! Fantastic acting and amazing animation
Since buying this, my family has watched it 5 times. The story is great with sharp, witty dialogue with great pacing. It doesn't feel forced or "let's have conversation to introduce facts to the audience". The complexity is great. Puss 'n Boots is a good active decision maker, with strong motive and desires, along with the supporting characters. A far cry from the first Puss in Boots movie. The story never drags and is engaging to all ages. The humor is fun, sometimes edgy, but it has a good moral to the core of the story. Would not recommend for children under 10. There are some intense moments, especially with Lobo/Death/Wolf. It will definitely cause nightmares for the young ones. ... show more
