  • Very helpful for my dog (was: My picky pup prefers it to Hills)
Size: 30 lb. Bag Style: All Breeds
Update: two 30lb bags later... I am so appreciative of Purina for helping my dog. As mentioned in the original review, she is on both this food and the Purina Calming Care supplement. (I called Purina to make sure there weren't any issues with that, and yes, they work with different mechanisms, so stacking them is fine.) In the past, it seemed that she would not get used to neighbors on my quiet street, who tried a bit (and repeatedly) to be friendly to her, despite being barked at. Now, she's like a normal dog with them, no barking and letting them pet her. She also doesn't bark at all the noises in the neighborhood, as she once did. She still has some stranger anxiety at times, but I have hope that that is improving, too. She is almost two now, so some of the behavior change might be due to her age, but she was super anxious even as a puppy, so I've always thought it was just who she was. It appears that I have a different dog now, one much easier to live with, and I'm delighted. Original review: I have a weirdo 55lb lab mix who will sometimes walk away from food when it's meal time. Sometimes I have to hand feed her! (She's hungry, but won't eat. Such a goof.) I had been feeding her a Blue variety, but she got to sample Hills when I was taking care of my son's dog and then she wouldn't eat the Blue any longer. She will often eat the Hills without a topper, though it got to the point where I always needed it for the Blue. I offered her some of this and some of the Hills, and she gobbled this down, and left the Hills untouched. One of the things that attracted me to this food is that my dog tends to be anxious and I've been using the Purina Calming Care for a few months now, and it seems to help. So I have the sense that Purina is really working on helping anxious dogs, and although this is a different approach, I want to see if it will help her still more. Of course it will be awhile till she's been on this for 12 weeks, but the fact that she likes it means I can explore that route. Fingers crossed! ... show more

  • Seems to be very helpful addition to my dogs diet
Size: 16 lb. Bag Style: All Breeds
I gotta be honest, I didn't expect much from this when someone told me about it, but it seems to be working out and everything points to positive aspects starting coincides with the beginning of feeding this to my dogs. Someone recommended this to me for my fear reactive dog. They said many reactive dogs also have gut issues. Apparently experts aren't sure yet if the issues cause reactivity or is just very common in reactive dogs, but this person assured me it would really help. I shrugged, ordered a bag from Amazon, fed it to my dog when it came. I forgot all about it... But after several weeks I noticed my reactive dog seemed a lot calmer overall. Mind you, we've also been working with him and doing the positive reinforcement training, etc, so it's probably everything combined, but hey, if this is helping, I'll take it! Soon after, I inherited another dog from a family member who couldn't keep her anymore and started slowly switching her over to eating this food so I didn't have to buy a bunch of different dog foods. She's an old dog - 14 years old - so she had some minor flatulence issues that I think a lot of old dogs get. This stuff seriously helped a lot with that issue! Also, when we first got her a few months back, she wouldn't eat much, which I chalked up to age and maybe stress from missing her person. But I watched her and I did get the impression she wasn't actually digesting the old food very well, something again I chalked up to age. But as she slowly got switched over and the ratio in her bowl was becoming more of this rather than her old food, I noticed she was enjoying eating more. This food along with a supplement (Dasuquin) has really helped this old dog be a lot more comfortable in her old skin. The supplement is helping with her arthritis pain and the food with her digestion. So it seems she's going to have a happy retirement after all! ... show more

  • Amazing results
Size: 5 lb. Bag Style: Small Breed
I have a Chihuahua who came from an abusive situation, he is very timid and has a lot of emotional damage. This food along with an over the counter anxiety supplement has made such a difference in his demeanor. He's way more confident and social than just his supplement alone. Plus he loves the food! ... show more

  • I’m hopeful
Size: 5 lb. Bag Style: Small Breed
Our mini golden doodle is excitable, barky, and as sweet as he can be. He’s been eating this food for a couple of months. Is he calm- no, but he isn’t even 2 years old yet. I have high hopes for the 2 year plus mark. I think he does seem to be able to relax a bit sooner than before. He refuses to eat just plain dog food, and when that’s all that’s offered he plans to go hungry. But when we add a little of whatever we’re eating (Rice Krispie for breakfast? Put a few in his bowl too, meatloaf for dinner? Add some small pieces to his bowl- and he eats!) Our vet approved us switching him from a different Purina Pro to this one, and we’re going to stick with it. It’s a good value, and since our vet trusts the name, we do too. ... show more

  • So picky when it comes to dog food!
Size: 5 lb. Bag Style: Small Breed
My pup thinks he is is too good for DOG food. I use to get the Purina Pro with real dry chicken for small breeds. He would literally spit out the chicken but eat the small bits of food. Until he didn't want to anymore. So, I'd figure I'd switch for a bit and so this one. He's on daily meds that I have to mix with real chicken and other stuff but since I don't like to give him a full serving of chicken, he hungry for more. He loves this food. He crunches it like it hard candy! When he gets tired of this one, I'll switch back to the other one. I also purchase the small bags for the reason that the dude doesn't like it when it no longer is as fresh. The crunch is less so he spits out the ones he doesn't like. So not only does it make a BIG mess, it is wasted money. So I'd rather spend more so I don't waste my time cleaning. ... show more
