Purina Cat Chow is one of my favorite brands of cat food because they donate so much food to rescues and shelters. Their food is good quality for the cost and I routinely recommend it to people that cannot afford premium food like Royal Canin. I had the opportunity to talk to Purina reps in vet tech school about their process and how they take care of their cats. I was blown away by how much science is involved in their food making process and how well they take care of the cats. Every person at the Purina company is assigned to a cat and it is their duty to take care of that cat. I have seen cats live up to 20 years on Purina food so they must be doing something right. This is the food that my shelter uses, recommends, and sends home with adopted cats and fostered kittens. I highly recommend this food for people who cannot afford a premium food. ... show more

This food is used to feed strays and ferals (and the occasional wandering housecat). For the money, we know that it is complete and balanced food. It is also popular with birds, squirrels, chipmunks, opossums and foxes, but that's another story. It's also used for indoor cats, as a choice for them if they want (and they do, sometimes). My cats love this. Specifically, I have a ragdoll named Banjo, he's ten months old, and about six months ago he was hit by a car. His jaw was broken in half and needed to be wired together. Ever since then, he's had trouble with eating kibble (it falls out of his mouth because the muscles are too stretched), but wet food is so expensive I had no choice but to use dry food. Anyways, I bought this because it was cheap, and then when I fed it to my cats, to my surprise nothing was falling out of Banjo's mouth! It was small enough that it was easy for him to eat, besides, they seem to enjoy this much better than the previous brand I tried. I will definitely buy more! ... show more

What a great price on this product -- when I saw the size of the bag, I was so impressed! (I guess I hadn't realized how much 16 pounds really is). But with my two hungry kitties, it's a good idea to be stocked up; as a broke teacher, it's a GREAT idea to pay $12 for a huge bag like this. Plus, the secret advantage is the endless delight your cats will take in playing around with the food as you pour it out of the enormous bag into Tupperware storage containers (I live in steamy south Florida, where flimsy bags mean nothing to local insects and humidity). My two literally pranced for joy, pawing at the stream of food as it tumbled into the jars, then trying to eat it mid-air. Oh, the cat life. ... show more
