When I took it out of the package it had a funny smell to it. It wasn't the plastic package smell either. I tried airing it outside on the line for 6 hours in the sun but it didn't help at all. So I stuffed it into my top load washing machine, put on oversize water level, covered with warm water & little bit of soap and extra rinse cycle. I had to do this 3 times! I used gentle cycle for delicates.. And worried the whole time that I would ruin it (because it said dry clean only) - I didn't want to dry clean and add even more chemicals to it than what already was making it smell bad. I want to clean with water, not chemicals.. After 3 washes including extra rinses I put it in the dryer on low/tumble for 2 hours.. (one cycle was not enough) .. I was pleasantly surprised when it came out that I didn't destroy it because I fully expected it to be ruined.. Its beautiful, fluffed up and only has a faint smell left (my nose is very sensitive) - there was only one square that didn't dry completely and I have it on bed to complete drying that square. I notice one other square didn't have lot of down inside it (hardly any) but all the other squares are full and fluffy.. I didn't examine it before I washed it so it probably arrived like that. I haven't actually used it yet on the bed but I am so happy that I could use it in my washer and not have to dry clean it (I did use gentle cycle) and tumble/low heat that I'm leaving 4 stars. I don't know how well it will hold up with repeated washings, but I have purchased a duvet cover to put it inside of so that I will only need to wash the duvet cover in the future. I only washed it because of the smell so hopefully I won't need to do that any more. My washer is the Speed Queen (just like the old fashion top load washers) in case that makes a difference to someone. I would hate to ruin someone elses comforter because their washer was more rough on it. I watched it carefully for a while as it was washing to be sure it didn't get torn up, then let it go for a few more cycles! (In my particular machine you can override the safety feature by putting a clothespin in the back to clip a lever down so it keeps running when you open the lid... otherwise when you open the lid it turns off!) Update: 1 year later I am still using it daily. I haven't needed to wash it since. I only take off the duvet cover, and wash that occasionally. It is still fluffy and providing warmth! ... show more

    • Getting Out of Bed Is So Hard To Do . . . Now!

Down comforters have been my bedding choice for years, and after ten years of good service, it was time to replace my old one. I never buy anything without doing a lot of research, comparing, and price checking, not to mention reading reviews on the product. My first choice was a rather high end comforter simply because the company name is one I've trusted for a long time, but their prices are simply too expensive for my wallet. After a lot of looking, I finally decided on this comforter, even after reading (and especially after reading) the one-star reviews. To say this comforter lives up to the advertising is factual at the very least. When it arrived, it was flat out of the box, but a few hearty shakes fluffed it up nicely. The cotton cover has a "solid" feel to it, very durable, not to mention attractive. The gold satin piping is a nice touch, but what really made up my mind for this one was the fact that it has corner tabs. I have dogs, and they spend as much time on and in bed as I do, so a white cover won't be white for very long, and a duvet cover is a necessity to keep the comforter clean. As far as warmth goes, the first night I discovered how toasty and comfy this comforter is. We live in northern Michigan, and lately our nighttime lows are in the single digits, with Real Feel temps in the minus range. I tend to like a cold room, and warm coverings, and usually keep the window open just a little to let in fresh air. Even then, the comforter kept me very warm. It also has a nice fullness so that it resembles a cloud. I had not heard of Puredown before, but am very glad that I gave it a try. The only downside (no pun intended) to this comforter is that it is very difficult to get out of bed on cold winter mornings! ... show more

I have just spent my first night underneath this comforter, and I have decided that this is my absolute perfect comforter. Thrilled beyond words. So freaking happy that I ordered this one. I have finally achieved bed nirvana. Let me just say that I ordered a new comforter about a year ago on Amazon, and have been using that one for the last 9 or 10 months. Amazing comforter. Really high quality. But it was very heavy and way too warm. I was uncomfortably overheated most of the last year. I can't stand being overheated while I'm sleeping. There were many nights, especially during the summer, that I was waking up tossing and turning and unable to get comfortable due to the comforter. The difference between that comforter and this Puredown comforter is night and day, and I could tell the difference immediately. This Puredown comforter is definitely lighter and thinner. I would definitely say that the product description is accurate in that it is a medium weight, all seasons comforter. Exactly what I was looking for. Also, it does have corner tabs to tie a duvet cover onto, which is perfect. So I'm 1000% stoked right now and am convinced that this will be my beloved comforter for years. THANK YOU. Very Happy.
