I bought this based on That Kilted Guy's recommendation for removing popcorn ceilings. I tried it with the Homax scraper, which didn't work at all, and I tried it with a 9" sanding disc attachment and found it too heavy to use overhead. I also found I was only using it at full length on my 8 ft ceilings, so I just got a cheap 5 ft pole which was much lighter and worked much better. HOWEVER, when it came to painting walls, this was a great tool to have. The heft of it helps roll straight, smooth lines, and the infinite adjustment helps get in tight areas like closets without having to change poles. As a professional painter in NYC, I carry my tools to every job. And one of the most necessary tools for a painter is a pole. We use it for painting and sanding, so it needs to be convenient and reliable. The purdy power lock matches that criteria. Pros: If you have a purdy handle(I do), then you don't have to untwist to take your handle off. One click and it pops off and you keep moving. The ability to set the extension of the pole to your liking is also a welcome feature. You're not forced to lock in at certain increments. And last. The rubber at the end is very durable and feels good to the hand. Not to mention, if you work small spaces you may have a tendency to hit the wall behind you while using your pole. With that rubber end, at least you won't gouge the wall or hurt someone. Cons: It's a bit heavier than I like, so carrying this pole around with other tools isnt exactly practical. Takes some getting use to. The mechanism that's keeps the stick extended tends to wear down after a while, causing the stick to retract when you apply pressure. ... show more

To quantify my painting skills, I'm neither a novice nor a professional. I've been painting for 30+ years, mostly inside. This product is sturdy (well built), weighs appropriately (not too heavy, not too light), and you can adjust it by fractions of an inch! I purchased the 2-4' pole. The length can be adjusted to exactly what you want, whether 2' .25" or 2' 7.50" or 3' 10.875" or whatever. The adjustment locks exactly at the location you set it. I really like the ability to customize pole length to fit my situation, whether painting while standing on the floor, or up on a stool, or standing on my tip-toes (just kidding about the tip-toes!).
